My A4 came with heated / electric mirrors as most do - however, our house has a narrow garage so i thought about installing the OEM power folding ones. It's a very easy DIY:

    You need...

New door control modules for each side - part numbers
    Drivers side: 8E2 959 802
    Passenger side: 8E2 959 801
It seems modules with 'E' at the end will also work - but definately not ones with 'B' at the end.

You need a new mirror switch that has 4 positions - the 4th position is to turn them in.

New mirrors from an A4 or S4 with power folding function:
    8E2 858 531 B or 8E2858531AC passenger side
    8E2 858 532 J or 8E2858532AC drivers side

To fit them, remove both door cards, remove the speakers. The old control modules are 3 screws and pull off. replace with new ones. Once the speaker is out you can access the wire all the way through the door upto the mirror - uncrew the old mirror base and replace with new mirror and push cable down through door and into new control module.

WIth the door card off you can access the switch on teh armrest and unscrew and replace with the new one.

That's it - no wiring, no coding it just works!

Chas, I'm about to do the same mod for the same reason & have read up about it in a few threads on his forum. Maybe I've missed it but I don't recall anyone mentioning the door grab handle where the switch is mounted. My Owners Manual for that option shows a fourth (fold) symbol on the handle (which presumably is also illuminated by the switch). Did you get a 4 position grab handle for the mod? If so, do you have the P/No?

My car came with power-folding mirrors but we're soon to move into a house with a thin garage.

Out of interest, if it's so thin you need to fold your mirrors, how do you get out of the car once you're inside the garage?

I would imagine to get the car through the garage doors is a tight fit.

Exactly - the garage is quite wide actually, but the door is smaller - so either side of the door is built out if that makes sense - once you're in it's fine!

Approx cost about £220 for me - second hand and ebay parts.

It's been well over a year since the last post, so I don't feel it's something that gets discussed a lot on these pages?

I'll add it to the DIY guides if it's not already there.

No probs YSN, as Mike says - there are loads of cars that share the part. They're listed on the link.

Chas - if you're still following this - what's your verdict on using the folding mirrors when icy... yay or nay? I'm thinking about where a particularly hard frost has formed, it might cause a lot of resistance to the mirror movement?
