    I have a 1.9tdi 130 5speed

I don't seem to be getting boost untill around 2k, it does start building at around 1800k but no real kick at all untill 2k, is this normal for these, my mates Passat has the same engine and is fully on boost by about 1500k.

    Thanks

Mines doing the same at the moment, had it checked out and nothing found. It has got better since i cleared the carbon out of the system by keeping the revs high (3-4k) on a dual carriageway

Yeah had mine on VCDS last night and came back with nothing.

I've replaced all vacuum hoses recently and got no boost leaks, recent air filter and fuel filter, cleaned out EGR valve, run cleaner through the injectors.

    Very confusing.

Mines just had a major service and I noticed it after that, it might be worth trying what I suggested and see if it improves things before spending money on more expensive things. I'm a bit cautious with fuel additives, i've read mixed responses to them so I feel its best to leave it alone. Maybe a tank of V-Power might help?

possibly the vanes in your turbo are sticking, check out the mr muscle turbo cleaning thread.as alpesh26 says it got better with a high rev cleaning but this still does not remove everything

I found that too with supermarket diesel. I only use shell fuelsave in it now. I was looking at the Mr Muscle turbo cleaning, but quite frankly I dont have the balls to do it in case I screw up the engine. i'm also unsure if the B7 1.9TDi has the same layout as the B6 1.9 TDi. My mechanic recommended a turbo rebuild if its causing too much trouble...

Went to clean the vanes again and one of the nuts is rounded, managed to get one off with some vice grips and a hammer and replace with a new one but other is stuck on for now untill I can get some nut extractors.

Car is always run on the shell fuel-save stuff aswell.

Anything else the problem could be?

i have just put a new( second hand)engine into my car 2001 1.9tdi and seem to be having the same problem,i had a look at both sides of the turbo and the looked OK,if it was blocked by soot and what ever should it be noticeable.i could all so spin the vanes with no resistance so is there anything else to check.
    sorry for the hijack jacktdi

Cheers mate, if poss, please can you get pics of where the mr muscle needs to go into?

I just noticed that your car is remapped. Mine is too and i'm getting my boost settings checked tomorrow to make sure its not that. I've also filled up with some V power (£90 :slapped:) so see how that goes (i booted down the dual carriageway and no black smoke, but it had just come off the mway so it may be clean already), will let you know.

I remember seeing this page, it actually seems pretty easy and much safer than the mr muscle method...I shall investigate further (how to get the turbo out)

jacktdi - sorry for the thread hi-jack!

Also noticed this morning that I have a hell of a hesitation in 4th gear, was keeping the car at high revs this morning to try help abit and took to just under redline in 3rd, went into 4th which took the revs down to about 3000rpm and when I hit the throttle again it didn't go, so lifted off and put my foot back on and it went fine again.

If I am in 4th at around 2000rpm though it will go past 3000rpm with no problems.

my car is a standard 130bhp with no mapping mods etc..... and gotta say i dont get any esitation my turbo cuts in very well and very early and hold full boost up to red line nearly, mr muscle worked really well for me mines miles better, think mine was just lack of oil change and driven by a grandad but now it's very lively and goes very well for a standard 130bhp soon to be mapped i think, still thinking of the tdi tunning box

Make sure you have a genuine maf that works perfectly.

a leaking or broken egr could also cause hesitations mine was doing this till i fitted a blanking plate to remove its functionality

I recently had a similar problem to what your describing, although mine was intermittent. I took the MAF sensor out and soaked it in alcohol I used methanol (work in a lab) but rubbing alcohol should be fine or maybe acetone. The sensor didn't look dirty but even still cleaning it seems to have got rid off the problem. Might be worth a try.

Right got a rounded nut remover on order so I can clean the turbo out when it arrives, also ordered some plates to blank the EGR valve.

Will see how it is after that.

If no luck after that I'm going to try some diesel purge through the injectors and a oil and filter change.

I'll try picking up some rubbing alcohol today and giving the MAF a clean, I did clean it once with some electrical cleaner but had no luck with it, so maybe leaving it to soak might be better.

Blocked off the EGR valve today and taken off the hose, got no warning lights or anything, noticed though that the 2 small vent holes on the EGR valve are leaking oil very slightly.

Doesn't seem to have fixed the problem though, going to use the oven cleaner in the turbo over the weekend and see if that works.

It probably goes without saying but after soaking the MAF sensor in alcohol give it plenty of time to let the alcohol evaporate. When I did mine I gave it a good poke around with a cotton bud.

Do I need to soak the whole thing or can I just put it in a glass up to the connector?

Been having a little tinker again today, noticed that when I start the engine the actuator rod moves up, but only about 2cm, is that normal? I can pull it higher if I put a vacuum pump on it.

So now to add to my list of what has been done is:

*Turbo cleaned out with Mr Muscle and I worked the actuator loads at different levels while doing it, moves very smoothly, only thing I've noticed is that when you start the engine the actuator rod doesn't move all the way up(only about 2cm) not sure if it's supposed to move right to the top.

Also replaced the MAF due to a different fault.

Still don't have much power under 2k....what next.

    Right another update:

Whipped the inlet off to see what the situation was and to be honest it was pretty clean, no heavy build up at all, just a thin oiley covering, the ports into the head were also clean so I can rule that out.

Next on my to do list is to run a can of straight diesel purge through the injectors.

Starting to run out of ideas of what it could be now.

Im pretty sure that the actuator arm moves right to the top when i switch on, if yours is not then it maybe leaking vacuum or not recieving enough. When you put your vac pump on it and pull it up further can and does it hold the vacuum if left. another possibility is that at some point before you got it is that the actuator has been fiddled with/replaced and it needs adjustment. It can be adjusted so that the arm will move more or less depending on requirement. You will need to research the amount of rod that should be showing? worth a check as i have read before of these symptoms and this was the end cause

Yeah i've pulled it right to the top and held it there and it doesn't loose any vacuum, I also replaced all the Vacuum hoses not so long ago so that should be all ok.

I was thinking that it might not be getting enough vacuum, that would mean a faulty N75 valve?

Smallish update: The hesitation I had in 4th gear going from 3rd has now gone so I must have sorted that along the way somehow.

The car is still coming onto boost fully at around 2k and it starts building around 1800k but would ideally like it to be fully boosting by like 1500-1700k so will kepp on with the search.

I'm currently running a tank of V-Power and that seems to have solved my boost issues, its boosting at 1500rpm like it used to. The engine seems more responsive and pulls a lot better. Not sure what it will be like when I go back to fuelsave

Cheers. Next time I fill up I'll fill up with V-Power diesel and see what happens, might be the V power giving everything a good clean out.

So a bit to update, still having this problem.

Since then I had run though some diesel purge, which has helped with a slight shudder I had on idle

Been running on V-power diesel, doesn't seem to have helped though.

Also had a really good check for boost leaks and all is fine, had the rocker cover off to check for cam wear and see what the injector loom was like, both are fine.

The car after 2k pulls perfectly well, can just be annoying having no power under that, so i am unsure what to check for next.

I've checked for play in the turbo and there isn't any, unless something is going on inside the turbo.
