You haven't got one of those Fugly new hatch things have you?
I thought you had an RA or similar?

I really liked the 'classic' STIs...great drivers cars. RB5, P1 etc...
almost bought an RB5 back in the day...went for an ITR instead.

The later cars seemed to need more fancy diffs and electronic trickery to overcome the extra weight and understeer that the early cars didn't have.
The early cars were cheap with **** interiors...but they sold cheap.
The Bug-eyed versions and after still had the **** interior pretending to be an expensive interior...and the price had risen.

I still think the JDM 2 dr 'classics' are mental fun...without being too hardcore.

As for the new Fugly thing...oh dear.

Yes, because the R32 is really in direct competition with a car which cost £20,000 more isn't it?

I love how people use that reasoning, the R32 is a 3.2 yet 'only' makes 245 bhp. I'm sure VW could have made the 3.2 more powerful than BMW's inline 6, but for obvious reasons chose not to. I know the R32's not that quick, and I know its limitations so I won't get offended if you want to ridicule it like most S3 owners tend to do, if you dare criticise their car.

Nothing against you personally Scott, but when you first came on this board all we'd hear were stories of how you'd beat any car that tried it on with your mapped S3. To be fair you've stopped that now though.

I may be young but I'm most definitely not some hoodrat like most S3 drivers seem to be now :p

Cheers Scott I find YouTube so addictive I can spend ages on it I saw that Hyabusa one, its great what you can do with cars when money is no object. I would have some real fun building a stealth car to put on a track and keep up with the supercars what a blast that would be. Oh on the way home tonight I had a little play with a Evo, not a normal one though it had some mad size exhaust, and a spiked spoiler on the roof, I kept behind him for a good mile or 2, as Im still in the S4 curtesy car, but a gap came up for him and he floored it, Oh my god that thing flew I could smell the rubber from his tyres he destroyed me, totally left me. Thought I was doing well earlier to. Those things fly I dont know anything that could compare to how that pulled off I think it would have even caned Glens Porsche lol. Oh 1 more thing before I shut up. At work (Birmingham Airport if anyone want to see it) they dropped of 2 new cars for there new competition, both brand new a Aston Martin DBS I think, and the beast an Audi R8 oh how stunning it is. Anyway enouth of me rambling lol :tapedshut:

golf, i no its nothing personal..... Just like to clarify my posts were not made up!!! i took on board what every one said though on how the s3 is a sloppy handler and by god its true! understeers like a barge and rolls like a fat bird in bed!!! lol. still looks the business so im keeping it for now. lol

i think he was talking about the mk5........ whilst we were on about the mk4....... still relevant...... and emphasis's that there is hardly any difference in the price.....although id like to bet on future residuals being more in the S3's favour..... that is without a shadow of a doubt for the points i raised above.......

I never said the S3 was a hoodrat motor, but you do tend to see more undesireable characters (let's just say) driving them these days which is inevitable really as pre facelifts can be had for as little as £6000.

That doesn't make sense. Who compares a MKIV R32 with an E46 M3? Completely different cars that were never meant to be seen as rivals.

By your logic a 2003 S3 can be pitted against an E39 M5, just because they'll be around £11,000.

i know where there coming from mate , in Manchester ( it's all i can talk about ) high mile e46's are now being driven by the same sort of lads who buy Subarus, ST's , MK 4 R32's, MK 5 GTI's, 8L S3's, VXR's, EP9 Type R's , 182's , Meganes , all differing price's and great cars , same with all cars the cheaper they get , the lower down the food chain they go, at the moment there still with the enthusiast's.

I used to have a MK4 GTTDi before my S3 which I loved to bits, I think they are a really nice looking motor. I think the MK4 R32 was in a class of its own, its a stunning looking car, it does look better than the S3 as the S3 looks quite (wolf in sheeps clothing) compaired to the aggresive look of the R32...ok the MK4 I think is the better looking, butt again that's down to personal preference. GOLF your lucky to own one buddy I really wanted one just could not afford it really.

The FQ Evos are fast...anybody stupid enough to think they aren't shouldn't be allowed to continue to live!

A mate of mine had an FQ360 and it was considerably quicker than my C4S up to 80 ish...80-100+ the gap remained but didn't change and above that the C4S would start pulling in.
Over twisty roads the Evo was easily a match...but on roads requiring really good brakes the C4S had the edge in both braking power and balance on late braking.
But off the line? Not a hope...

Next we'll be hearing how a re-mapped 8L S3 will match an Evo off the line...not a hope, as long as I've got a hole in my ****!

But anyone considering high power Evo FQ ownership should investigate further their appetite for tyres (4000miles to a set), brakes (8000 miles to a set), services (sometimes twice a year) and fuel economy (10 MPG).
    Truly fast...truly capable...
    But bloody expensive to run.

Morning Glen lol us early risers eh. I looked in the Top Gear car guide it says the Evo's go through sets of tyres like nothing, thats the problem with these high power cars, maintaining them is like giving the missus your credit cards lol I had not seen an Evo like that one before it was just fun following it but seeing it blast away was amazing. My favorite car has to be the 911 turbo 996 or 997 wonder how that would compair.

Ill bet the fq 400 has the edge to 100 over a 996 turbo!!! if it can keep up to a 580bhp lambo round a track, im sure itll be more than capable of doin the same with a porsche turbo!!!.... Dont no if any 1 agrees but clarksons test with the fq400 was well unfiar when he set off in 6th gear and there was 'lag', Do that in any turbo car and itll be the same!!! Amazing cars imo.

I agree 'golf' you cant compare a MKIV R32 with an E46 M3.... Im sure theres a bigger difference in price than people think!!! cheapest r32 golf you can buy is maybe 11 grand?? over a similar miled / year m3's gunna cost you 16k plus?? in which case id rather have a b5 rs4 (mapped) which would ruin most things on the road!!! plus ones a hatch and ones a coupe!!! etc, etc....

good fact shy19s!!! Thats the japs for ya!! lol

Wasn't that the thing with a turbo the size of Manchester?
If so...I doubt it would edge a 911 turbo to 100...maybe, once it's rolling...but so much lag it's a joke.
For flexibility, the turbo would murder it, I'd expect.

Point to point, I'd expect an Fq320/40/60 to be as quick, if not quicker on real roads.

But a std 911 turbo will keep up with a Lambo round a track...and besides, it's sold as a road car. At which it's plainly **** at being.
In my view, the FQ340/360 is a more capable car...very little lag, utter and total performance...if you can afford to run one.
    I can't....

    Try it in a 911 turbo...from 20 MPH...it'll pull from 20 in top, to 200.
    Now that's amazing...

Except that a B5 RS4 won't go round corners...it was bloody awful standard, and even with £8ks worth of KWs finest upgrades, they are still lumbering great beasts that have no finesse or flair...the polar opposite of an M3!

One you manhandle into corners using all your strength...understeer through the corner and engage warp drive on the straight...the other you flick through the bend with your wrists enjoying it's perfexct balance, exit on an arc of oversteer, perfectly lined up for the straight...and hope to arrive at another corner before the RS4 passes you!

    That's dayshift for ya!

There is no doubt that you'll not go faster, cheaper, than with an Evo...and they are easy to drive. They are technically brilliant.
    But...not for me.
Apart from the image...I really would struggle to run one if used properly.

A 911 is cheaper to run...in fact, a 911 is cheaper to run than my modified S3 was (over 3/2 years, tyres, brakes, suspension bushes, track-rod ends, fuel economy etc, considered)

Ess Three, You say the fq 400 has lag, if in a drag race from standing, would there be any lag?? as youd be in the right gear at the right time and set off silly revs so the turbo will already be spooling???

The 20 - 200 in top gear of a turbo is pretty amazing!

and i no what ya mean about the handling of an rs4.. mate had an amd mapped b5, awesome straight line performance, get to roundabouts and see clios shoot past!!! lol.

I always thought the fq 400 was a waste of time anyway when you could slightly fettle a 360 to similar performance with out the drawbacks and have money spare to buy a cheap s3!!! lol.

Althought these EVOs are fun cars to drive and quick, and im stricly commenting from my experience, and ive only driven modified Evo 4 and 6... yeah obviously it handles great, its constantly on rails, and when they're on boost leaves some unexpecting passengers with whiplash..
Im not sure i like them... if any of you have tryed to drift those things, its like playing a game on the playstation.. the AYC does absolutly everything for you, its like you might as well not drive anymore!
You the turn the steering wheel, give it some power and the back end is out, correct it, and with ease it comes back. I think it kinda ruins the fun of driving its all electronic! The 4 isnt as bad, as the AYC isnt so intrusive, however the 6 was a joke, i can only imagine that anything after this model is controlled with a joystick.
The Turbo CRX for example, its a battle to keep it in a straight line as it has so much torque steer, although abit hairy, its a helllllll of alot more fun!(obviously not comparing, just using two extremes)

AYC does most but not all; as you still have to apply the right amount of power at the right time pointing the right way with the right amount of steering all in one fluid motion. You have to respect that darling but don't allow it to have all the fun!!!

I disagree, yes the electronics have a part to play but as the driver you are the one in control of having to adjust the lock and throttle. When I drove the 6 it was awesome, yes the electronics are there and will allow you to do some seriously stupid ( :sign_omg:) manouevers but in the end I was the one having to reel it back in which on no occasion ruin the fun.

The Evo 8 is a heck of a lot more forgiving than the 6 BUT is very much a more driveable car. It could be down to the 500 on tap and the uprated AP brakes but the ability to have the car set-up to enter and exit a bend, straight or corner is astounding compared to the 6. The car is so much easier to plant and the handling really is a joy.....stick.

I agree with what you said and you pretty much stated the obvious in your post however i still think its there too much, there is no skill involved, its so easy, almost too easy, some might argue this is better but im not convinced yet.
I suppose it will help if you cock it up, but even still. i think in the future it will all be sitting in the back seat, controller in one hand, pina colada in the other. 90mph drifts, getting a massage lol.

I really want to get out in the 8 heard great things about it. saw a 10 last night, im not sure still.

I hear what you are saying; it ain't like a Caterham for sure! Still it depends on how far you want to take the thing - quite far to be honest - but even so keeping it on the money is what counts, to be able to produce half of what you can in an Evo in some other car whether it be in a lightweight car or some other 4 door saloon is nigh on impossible but yes it is 'easy' to do just don't make it too easy that you **** it right up.

Try the 8 you may well be pleasantly suprised ideally the 340 we found to be the better of the selection plus has a lot of the 400 inbuilt

Maybe not...but we don't all live at the end of 1/4 mile straights...and in everyday life, it's *****.
It's a strap on cock for those who must have the biggest and best...the FQ340/360 has all the good bits and none of the bad bits...and I'd bet you couldn't spot the missing 60/40 BHP!
And you could use a 340/360 every day.

    True...it was bloody expensive!

I'm all for challenging cars...they keep you involved.
I like to learn a car...but not fight it.
Also, forgiving is good...it's nice not to crash when it all goes Pete Tong.

I like the Evos to drive...on a track you can do silly things...
At a right hand hairpin, turn left, then right as you step off the throttle, back goes out, back on the power, wind the lock off...and enjoy the longest power slide you've ever seen...great!
Not sure I would try it on the road though...

If I were after an Evo, it would probably be an 8 or 9 FQ340/360.
    Deeply impressive cars.
Although, I do like the looks of the 10. Much more modern.

Indeed that is the idea, however as you stated in a previous couple of posts the servicing and 'playing' costs were just far too much with the 6. Especially as it only has a 45 litre tank and that last 90-110 miles if you were lucky drinking Super Unleaded and at present day rate would cost an arm and a leg. I was fortunate in the 6 in that the only thing that went wrong was the gear box - reason it buggered up was that I was using the clutch too violently and so bust a cog and spewed gearbox oil everywhere. The 6 did make me understand the dynamics of setting a car up well and has helped me in my S3 experience however the lack of power in the S3 has left me subdued somewhat and thankfully so!

If you want to run the Evo on the track we suggest putting in a slave fuel tank to help it out under force when taking the tight harpin or corner, this slave tank (only a litre) helps out immensly as in some cases when the fuel is sloshing to one side, you stamp the throttle but it aiin't there as there is no fuel!

Go for the 340 the majority of the internals are the same therafte in the 360 and the 340; the 8 we have is now just short of 500 but with new Motec Ecu, Rods and Turbo.

I'm not sure about the 10 though. When I first saw it yes for sure, but on seeing it now and reading in Evo I ain't sure, not at all. Seems a bit too 'modern' and 'well-built'

Here you are buddy I got this off Wikipedia for you.

The Ruf CTR also known as the CTR Yellowbird or simply Yellowbird, was a limited-production, high performance sports car produced by Ruf Automobile of Germany.
Introduced for the 1987 model year and based on the Porsche 911, the CTR featured an enlarged and highly tuned version of Porsche's 3.2 litre flat-six cylinder engine, a lightened body, uprated suspension and braking systems, a custom-designed transmission and several unique trim pieces such as fiberglass bumpers and intake ducts on the rear fenders.
Developing 469 hp (350 kW) and 408 lb·ft (553 N·m) of torque and weighing in it at only 2,500 pounds (1,100 kg), the CTR provided stellar performance, with a 0-60 time of around 4.0 seconds and a top speed in excess of 200 miles per hour (320 km/h). Although a small group of vehicles such as the Ferrari F40 and Porsche 959 were faster to 60 miles per hour (97 km/h), the Yellowbird could outperform all competition when it came to top speed, topping out at 211 miles per hour (340 km/h), a top speed that made it the fastest sports car in the world at the time of its release.
The car received its nickname, "Yellowbird", during testing by Road & Track magazine, whose staffers noted the contrast created by its yellow paintwork against the overcast skies on the day of their photo shoot.
