after driving a tdi courtesy car , mine seems to be very slow in comparison to start . courtesy car fired up instantly , whereas mine took 2 secs .

could the starter be on the way out .

how long does yours take ?

I got a TDI 140 53 plate. Once I wait for the yellow curly things to go (indication that the glow plugs have fired up) and start the car, it's instant...

Unsure of the cause or the cure im afraid, sorry =/

Strange that. The 56 plate A4 with 2500 miles on the clock I had as a courtesy car did this too. Cold starts were rubbish, it actually took 2 goes one morning. Now I've got my A3 it starts first time, everytime, no hesitation. But sorry, that still doesn't answer your question.

Just a thought. Do you recall at all how you normally start the car when its cold? E.g. do you just turn the key or do you wait for the Glow Plugs indication to go then start the car?
