Hello all

ive just joined this forum and hope im posting in the correct place

i have a Audi A3 1.9 TDi 100 BHP 51 Plate Cover 87000 Miles

my gearbox has been playing up and i took it into a gearbox specialist who confirmed that the solenorid need changing, also quoted me £1150 + VAT!!!!

can someone advice me if i can do this job my self?
how can i find the solenorids?
where can i get solenorids from?
does the ATF need changing to?

please help!!

Wow, for £1150+vat, I expect to see a replacement gearbox, not a solenoid! lol That's not far off the value of your car!!

So just to confirm, you have an automatic right?

It would be much cheaper to source a used box and swop over methinks.

yeah its auto,, if i get a new gearbox will i need solenoid to be repalced

I'm guess the solenoid lives inside the gearbox, so a new gearbox would obvious have new solenoids. I'm no expert on auto boxes, but sourcing a used one has got to be a cheaper option. Maybe take it to someone else for a second opinion?

can someone tell me where the solenoids are located? so i can have a look at them
