Why a 1.6 to start with? Why not buy something with a bit more power instead of modifying something up to a higher spec? Normally people only buy the bottom model to modify when they cannot afford the initial purchase price of a higher spec'd engine, so in your case where you say money is no object why not wait for the 3.2 V6 DSG model to be released, then you won't need to modify it, because it comes with 250 of it's own horses!! Even if that's out your price range why not consider the 2.0 FSI or even better the 2.0 TDI......which has bags of torque!

Why would you buy a brand new car and straight away invalidate the warranty? Wait for the 3.2!!

Fitting a K04 to the 1.6 could cause all sorts of problems with reliability as the 1.6 block is different to that of the 1.8 used in the 125, 150, 180, 210 and 225 bhp cars.
The ESP does not know any difference in power, it only detects when a wheel is slipping, but if you did have a lot of power under the hood you would need to disable it for standing starts, otherwise the car will just hop about on the spot.

NOS will work on any car, but if you don't know how to set it up and run it then it will do more harm than good to your engine, and it's usually the last thing you consider to get that last bit of power out of the engine.

Under car neon's are a big no no! You just don't do it to an Audi, in my opinion you'd ruin the class of the Audi mark, but everyone to their own....I suppose!

In car DVD and screens is no problem, but I would suggest you take it to a professional audio fitters, who should do a good neat job and keep it looking like factory spec'd.

    There are many more brands of filters that are available other than K&N, but I'm not sure any are developed for the New A3, but here's a couple to check out;

    www.ramair-filters.com
    www.pipercross.com
    www.greenfilters.com

My opinion is that you should buy the 2.0 TDI, if you want a car ASAP, and get it chipped by Oettinger (If you're not bothered about the Audi warranty) which will take it from 140hp to 165hp, which is far more cost effective than starting with a 1.6 and working your way up to something which is already available....or the better option is the 3.2 V6 with DSG.

Also remember that when you increase the performance of the engine past a certain limit you need to start upgrading other parts such as brakes and suspension, and from factory the lower models will have poorer brakes and suspension.

Take a look at www.oettinger.de, once you're in the site you need the A3 (8P) products. Oettinger are the only tuner I know that currently have products available for the New A3, maybe someone else knows of others?

The Neon's are your choice (everyone laughs at me 'cos I like the glowing dust caps!)

With ref to the rest... why not buy a 2nd hand A3 1.8T? Already Turbo Charged and upgradeable to KO4 I think....

That may be the case, but as soon as you do the mods your insurance will rise to the same, and if you decide not to inform your insurance company, you will be completely fecked if something happens.

Exactly as Moff said, I did maen to include that in my first reply...but oh well.

So I take it you're not really bothered weather it's the new shape or old shape?

You can get insurance a hell of a lot cheaper than that RichA3Turbo is only 20 and I know he's not paying so much for his A3T. I would look at either the new TDI if you want the new shape or the old A3 1.8.....

Fsi stands for Fuel Stratified Injection, it's the same principle as TDI for Diesels with direct fuel injection in this case. Supposed to give more torque and economy, and not really performance oriented. the TDI has a lot more torque and potential so it would be the better choice for performance here.

    Dude,

Neither are good for mods! you money would be better spent on a different car or the newest old stly 1.8T you can find which would be a 2002 model, which are good for 220bhp from chipping.

Have a look at the insurance posts and try people like Direct Line etc. for quotes.

Ajay - where in London are you from? I have seen constant streams of cars in my area with neons and they tend to be the usual Honda Civic and Celica/Supra boys! What looks ok(in some people's opinion) on one doesn't look good another! You just can't spoil an Audi by whacking neons underneath it! Thats my opinion but I'm sure its echoes on this board!

By the way, welcome to the board!

Secondly, if you say money is no issue then forget the 1.6!! Thats coming from experience, I bought one because I thought it would be more economical but I'm crying out for more horsepower! Ideally, I'd like an S3 in a years time!! So I would suggect ditch that plan and get yourself a recent old shape 1.8T or even S3 and find a friendly insurer! (they do exist!)

Personally I wouldn't go the route of NOS but I would go for a chip and exhaust combination, then drop it on some 18's with uprated suspension! If you want the new model then either get the 2.0FSi or wait for the 3.2 V6 - trust me you'll be thanking me if you avoid the 1.6!! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/grin.gif

    Good luck mate!

Definately own policy!!! Elephant are good for the price, but bad for mods... and trust me, at 19, nobody is good for mods!

    Try barclaycard also!

Try Hyperformance 0208-939-3940. They are a broker I use for supposedly "high risk" drivers/cars. In my opinion this should mean they specialise in Nova's, Metro's & Micras, but what do I know. They got me a great deal after I was banned for a year after accumulating 12 points on my licence, then getting done doing 107 on the M3 (oooops). I currently pay £700 on A4 2.8Q, with business cover & malicious damage cover. I used to think brokers were a waste of time, just another middleman, but these guys got me a policy for half the price of other quotes, and they do the shopping around for you when your policy is up for renewal. Good luck

Try going to www.confused.com. They look at about 30 - 35 insurers and email you with the best deals. I just got a quote £200 cheaper (£1000 down to £800) for my S3 with 3 yrs NCB.

Firstly if you are going to mod it, don't buy a 1.6! Also you will invalidate your warranty with any mods so why buy new?

You state 'money is no problem' why not buy a nearly new S3 then and get put the money you were going to put into modifying into insurance.

Not to tell you insurers about mods is a pretty risky and stupid thing to do and with the major mods you want to do they would almost render you uninsurable. You should be able to get insurance on a newish 1.8T Sport at your age living in London for under £1000.

Look through the forums for older posts on insurance and trawl the 'net for online quotes try all the performance specialists.
