I've been having cat converter issues for a long time now on my PFL RS3, throwing a P0420 code for Cat efficiency below threshold and some kind of rattle under full throttle. It sounds like something broke inside the converter and rattles under load. (the rattle sounds to be coming from the cat area, not from the engine bay, and I've had no other DTC other than P0420)
I live in Morocco and gas quality seem to be an issue for RS cars here. A lot of other owners had the same problem with cat converters.
I'm running a standard exhaust with milltek secondary decat pipes but I have Sports Exhaust catback at home waiting to be fitted.
Here are my options for fixing the issue :
- buying another OEM downpipe and pray
- finding a way to gut my current downpipe (I have a HG Motorsports O2 sensor defouler)
- Scorpion primary cat bypass
- Milltek primary cat bypass
I'm planning on doing a remap at some point, but as there's no dyno here it's gonna be a REVO stage 1 for now until I make sure the car is running fine without that broken cat converter.
Any thoughts ?
Btw, we don't have any serious regulations regarding emissions here, decat isn't an issue.
