In need of help took my a3 1.6 petrol on motorway for 1st time drove aprox 13 miles the fuel range on the car stayed the same throughout the trip any suggestions?

It uses average consumption figures together with fuel in tank to compute remaining distance. If you were doing runabout type motoring and consequently getting higher fuel consumption, then as soon as you start motorway travel the consumption decreases and the range extends because you are getting more to the gallon.
In certain circumstances you can actually travel, say 20 miles or so, and if the consumption was very good compared to normal, have more miles left than before you started !!
