Hi all,

Both windows on my S3 have stopped working at the same time.

Local garage had had a look for me and drivers side cable has sheared off and is just flapping around inside having wrapped itself up in the cogs.

The passenger side has broken a piece off the regulator itself.

Garage has quoted two new regulators which including fitting and vat works out nearly £300.

It's a fair old chunk to spend - I'm looking for experienced owners or anyone that's had this issue to see if there's any cheaper fixes. I've seen repair kits of eBay for as little as £10 but the garage says these will be a pig to fit.

Any ideas?

At the moment I'd rather spend the money on the cambelt and water pump which need changing so any saving I can make will be ideal.

Don't get those repair kits. They won't fit your s3. They state they fit both a3 and s3 but they won't. For some reason the a3 cable is a fair amount shorter.
I ended up buying a 2nd hand door frame with window n cable etc on eBay for £20 and just swapped it over. It's not that difficult to do, prob only took about 30 mins

Can you see if it's just the clips that have snapped? if so then it's a common problem, i think it costs £10 for new clubs to hold the cables in place, a bit of faffing about to fit them but i managed to do one of mine in under a hour and i didn't have much of a clue what i was doing

It's a local garage that I use that had a look for me.

I have had this issue before on previous golf mkiv and a Octavia VRS and always managed to fix it with a cheaper kit either the clips or the more fuller kits that have a cable included.

The garage I used to use has since closed up shop so I'm using an Audi VW specialist now and this was their diagnosis of the issue

A lot of garages wont bother trying to repair the single part and will just charge you for replacing the whole regulator (it is a lot quicker than repairing the old ones to be fair)

Yes I am jojo can you send a link?
Search Audi s3 uk sales page or s3 owners 8l chat, and add yourself to these groups. Then make an enquire. A guy called Sam was selling some not long ago, unsure if they are still available? But quite a few people breaking cars on there.
