sounds like its out of line the catch might need a little adjustment or the door has dropped but this can be ajusted at the hinge.

Ditto what Craig has said. It's quite common for the doors to drop on these. Only takes one fatty pulling themselves out of their seat using the top of the door frame to misalign it!

Check that the latch is on tight, use some thread lock on the bolts if it's not. You can also try lifting the door by just giving it a good heave to bring it closer to straight.

I get this occasionally on my A6.

Its the door lock asembly. I simply spray WD40 into it and problem goes away.

My passanger door is suffering from "lack of use", due to this the door hinges have gone tight and so have the little rollers that keep it open in the 4 different stages, even with oil/wd40 it is still suffering but not as bad.

When someone gets in and is not used to shutting the door it only closes on the first latch, this is down to tight hinges and people not wanting to slam the door.

Open the passanger side door and feel if it is tight on the hinges compared to the drivers door.

You could be suffering with the same.
