My friend has just bought a car with this installed but the owner cannot remember the code?
Is these a hard reset function fo rthis and is there a default code?

Theyre normally default codes such as '1234' or '0000'.

    I think my CK3200 was '0000'.

Definitely 0000. I used to have one in my last car. By the way, if you have trouble pairing with it and there has previously been other phones paired with it, delete some of the pairings. I think its about 5 phones it will remember and after that it will not pair with anything else.
