Sorry for wrong section but ive only spoken to you guys on here.

But what car would you guys get for about £3000 or so?
I'm looking for a new car soon as was gona go for a 106 GTi as i know a lil bit about then to maintain it and i can transfer parts over from my current car.
But i then was looking at RX7's. yummy but not all that reliable by the sounds of it.
so what would you guys get? not an A3 though as thats the obvious answer and nothing like an estate or 4X4

Got a 106 quiksilver at the moment. quick like it but want a bit more. the GTi's should be turnign up 0-60 in 8 seconds standard at 120bhp. can give it breather mods and cams to go up to 155bhp easily but you cant polish ur turd. end of the day, its still a 106 all-be-it a fast one.

I'd get a Yaris T sport. They are stupidly reliable, economic to run and a suprisingly fast. Although I did race a 106 GTI in mine and came out second but not by much.

HKS Titanium exhaust and K&N Apollo intake replacement and your sorted! I loved mine to bits but i crashed it! and bought..............

............a Suzuki Ignis sport, very rare little machines, genuine recaros as standard and a Hyabusa designed exhast and manifold as standard! I loved mine! here it is!

    £3k - Accord Type R, Golf GTI 1.8T Mk4, Starlet GT 1.3T...

RX7s, Pulsars, Scoobs at that price cost a bomb to maintain....

    Any modern classic.
will need a bit TLC but you wont lose money on it, in fact it could appreciate.
And most of them a pretty cool.

    205GTi
    309GTi
    R5 GT Turbo
MK 1 or 2 Golf Gti
    etc...

Dont forget that 3K gets you a nice MK3 Golf VR6.
But the smart money IMO is on a Corrado, you will get a nice pampered n/a example for 3K.

    cheers
    Paul

agree with the vr6. supra wise u'l end up getting a shity import or a non turbo which totaly defeats the purpose in having a supra which is powerrrrrrr (in the way JC says!!)

have a look at a renault 5 gtt, great little cars n can be very quick. there will be a limit to what u can buy, how much r u willing to spend on insurance?! all the cars that people have been saying are all great cars, but u gotta be comitted to keeping it in good nick, the engines are all easy as hell to work on compared to cars now but its the bodywork you gotta look after, a 106 will be a great choice but as it is a non turbo, performance mods are limited whereas a turbo'd car like the 5 gtt can be tuned very well

You should get more VR6 Golf for your money than the Corrado, ie later reg, equipment etc.
Pretty well built car as it goes, so will stand up against much newer french stuff such as the 106.
Just get one thats had the suspension sorted and an enthusiast owner.

    cheers

2000 prelude 2.2 VTi. 197bhp 0-60 in under 7 secs and bomb proof. Bit ugly tho....

    Rev 3 toyota mar2

2002 fiesta zetec s nippy little walm hatch with nice styling

I would stear clear of any jap "supercar" car for 3k. Especially a RX-7 what a nightmare on of thoes would be! Anything like a rx7, 300zx, skyline, supra, scooby or evo for less than 5-6k will prob be a shed. Plus if you are looking at a 106 GTi i'm guessing you are not very old, so it would be impossible to insure anyway.

There are some real nice quick cars out there for 3k tho, you just need to keep it simple imo.

cheers for the ideas guys. keep 'em coming.

i'm 22 right now so insurance wont be too killer but ive only been driving a couple of years.

some good idas to go on there but unfortunatly im one of those anti renault 5 people. ive seen so many idiots burning around in them i could never own one myself.

i was hopigng i could find one of these jap cars which has had a recent rebuild. maybe that wont happen though

Nah, old hat and looks it. Maybe Ok for a tuning project/track/drift thingy but not a daily driver.
Will be a money pit, no doubt.

Just like most cheap Jap pseudo-supercar stuff.
Some are temptingly cheap.......for a reason.

If it had to be Jap the my 5K wouldnt go on a RX-7.

also another thing about buying these cheap jap cars is that other young people buy em n rag the hell out of em, engine would be a mess. and it will be bloody expensive to run, some can be good like the nissan z range, but hard to get a decent one for good money! if your looking for summing good cheap, reliable, get an older a3. the 1.8 t is a great little engine and highly tunable

insurance wont be too bad either as im only 21 n have a new 2.0 as n its only £600 a month
