OEMPL.us sell the S3 skirts for $125, the page says they fit 2 door 8P A3s only. I imagine that vagparts can also get hold of them. Good luck!!

TDI-Line, could you please post some pics with the bumper off the car and the inside of the bumper? I'm toying with the idea of front parking sensors. Thanks in advance.

TDI-line - I'm getting one of these, but could do with the part number for the black number plate surround please if you could get it. Have you got it fitted yet (any pics)?

    Thanks

I quite fancy one but it depends on how much hassle it'll be to fit? I dont fancy doing it myself if its a bumper off job

Matt - it is a bumper off job, but I don't think it's too difficult. JimmyJames has done an excellent how to here.

I think it looks excellent - the pic below is of JimmyJames's Sportback with it fitted (Jas I hope you don't mind mate me posting your pic).

I've just bought one from a German seller on Ebay. OEM Audi blackout grill for an 8P A3.... £65 + £15 postage. Bargain.
Haven't actually recieved the grill yet, should be here by the end of the week. I'll post photos when i get it fitted. I'm hoping it suits the colour of the car nicely... If it doesn't you can buy mine!

PNH80 - have you got the number plate insert for it? If so, how much and do you have a part number?

I haven't yet mate but it's something i'm going to need to look at as well. As the grill hasn't even arrived yet i don't want to just assume it's going to look good on my colour car. If it looks good i'll get the number plate insert and get a local independent Audi specialist to fit it.... Not doing it myself, i don't care how easy it is!

No problem Jon. Nice to see my Sportback pop up.

On the plate holder. Yes order a black replacement or alternatively as i did and look at pic here as it just the biz. Keep your existing plate holder and buy Halfords MATT BLACK SPRAY PAINT and do it yourself. You would never tell that it wasn't black in the first place. It was dead easy. See my own posting of how too remove bumper else where on this site.:salute:

Ahh - that's a good alternative Jas. Might do that - depends on how expensive the black plate holder is.

Have had a look at the write up. Sounds a bit daunting to me on a such a new car, worried I'll mess it up and wont be able to get it back on right! Will see if I can find someone thats a bit more practical than myself.

Its a well written guide though

i have a black a3 with black sline optics grille, love it, hated that silver finish which i think belongs to the "classier" models. ive seen a red s3 with black optics on audi site used section, with black door mirrors, looks the nutts.

im no mechanic, this job was hell for me, some of the screws hard to get to, couldnt get the bumper to pop out. worth it though

it seems a lot of us would like to fit a black optic grille, but are a bit daunted by the thought of pulling the front of the car off for a styling exercise.

I wonder if any of the companies that make the aftermarket interior trims are looking at making a piece of black trim that just fits over the existing chrome surround, so that you don't have to change the whole grille. They would sell a few, I reckon.

There is always black gaffer tape I guess :scared2:

NOOOOOOO dont got the trim route, lol

I dont mind helping anyone pull the front off their car apart and fit the grill, if you want to have a run out into the Peak District (Nr Buxton, Derbyshire) for a bit of beer money I am more than willing to help.

Thanks for the offer. It's not so much that I don't think I could do the job, it's just that it seems a hell of a performance just to change the grille colour.

I'm also not 100% sure I will prefer it on my Mauritius Blue sportback, and it would be easier to clip on a piece of trim and then take it off again, rather than take the whole bumper off twice!

Anyone got any pictures of the optics grille on Mauritius Blue? Or would anyone with Photoshop skills be kind enough to mod a pic of mine?

The chrome trim on the standard grill will just unclip without removing the complete bumper, it's only a bumper off job if you want to change the actual plastic grill piece from the standard grey to the matt black..

You can buy the outer ring in black on its own, around £40 iirc and a 5 min job to fit as it just clips on :icon_thumright:

Hmm, imo if a job is worth doing, it's worth doing properly.

Having the black trim on the grey grill would look a bit **** I think. If you want the black grill look, I reckon you need to do the whole thing.

Once the weather warms up I'm going to give it a go (need to order a grill off fleabay first).

I had to order the black number plate grill after i get the optic grill from ebay (same seller), can't remember how much it was though.

I had Jabba sport fit mine, bumper off job, and also fit black wing mirrors. Took them just under 2 hours, and totally transformed the look of the car. Pics will follow once i've cleaned her.

You wouldn't happen to have the part number would you TDI-line for the number plate grill? I'm at the stealers next Tuesday, so would be handy if I could order it at the same time.

Looks good against normal silver, doesn't look so good against Akoya or Avus from the pics I've seen.
