My new S3!
Someone's robbed a few bits over night though!

Awesome, excited. But seriously, someone's already pinched bits? ****s
They pinched everything and left the shell!
I have the best neighbours Bill!
Surprised you didn't wake up! Lol
I'll take the wings Joe if they available?
It's staying on the shell mate.
So I was thinking 2.0TFSI with DSG and a few choice mods for 400bhp'll be ditching the rear diff, haldex, prop to save 50kgs+
A FWD S3, breaking the mould?
Will still need some semblance of rear subframe etc... IIRC the outer CV's will be needed to hold the wheel bearings in place and the subframe for the tie bars...
Aye, I was thinking of ditching the running gear, not the subframe/cradle.
Just a thought anyways, it may not happen still...
I gotta be honest Joe, I wouldn't start with something quite so bare, unless you fully intend to invest big money in the build and take a year or more over it before you get any use.
A better starting point would be a £1500 pre facelift S3 with a blown engine or similar.
I'm weighing it all up!
Wonder if this baby will fit? lol

Like the sound of the plans. If you bought a full car and then strip it you'll have made some money to put towards the engine. It'll be interesting to hear what the difference the independent rear suspension makes to a FWD 8L. The supercopa's are supposed to handle well.
Blimey. That's going to cost a bit to finish :/
Nah this might though...

No no no no one cares about fwd, its been done to death!
We all want to see what a proper stripped out S3 can do on track and what weight can be achieved.
My mate had an octy 4wd which the rear diff had blown. He stripped it all out leaving just the subframe and suspension and it was fine. He said it was probably lighter than a normal fwd setup too.
Well, someone buy my shell & have a go then! Joe was having a laugh to see who's up for it - cheeky lad!

Alistair (Joe lives around the corner!)
What's going on here then Joe? This will be a mammoth task as stated. And like jase said please keep it 4wd.
It's an early April Fools Westy...
Bill has been rocking the FWD race car since you and I were still at School, and I've built my FWD track car.
Until any one of you lazy *******s steps up to the plate and builds something half as fast using your fake 4wd system, FWD remains king here
Lmao. That would make more sense.
So what is going on? Is this a real project or not?
A FWD 8L shell with rear IRS would be ****ing epic, undeniably a better "track" car than a stripped S3 with standard running gear and Haldex.
After all, it's exactly what Audi themselves did to the racing 8P's.
yup, and the Leon supacoopa, 4wd euro shell running FWD.
ultimately, on a track / race car, anything up to 400ish bhp is no issue traction wise when running slicks, so 4wd is nothing more than a weight penalty,
On the road (**** UK roads in particular!) it's a very different story though. 4wd is king for getting from A-B fast on miserable UK roads.
You got me all excited on a Sunday morning. I'll need a cold shower now!
Lets see how your car performs @ ADI Jase! (If you actually turn up that is)
I saw the shell and had all these crazy ideas of what could be done mate!
If anyone is actually interested, the shell is for sale!
Remember that totally boss Toledo SuperCupa race car, the suspension on that thing was boss.
Here are some photos to inspire. Check out the rear wings!
I thought you might need that shell electrifying for a moment there jojo .
He wants too much money for the bits sadly
no no no no no
ditch the front shafts, make the haldex solid, weld the front diff and rwd it...
you do like sideways after all
Aye Mark, pricing things is subjective isn't it, if you want it bad enough, you don't mind paying a premium, at the same time, we all want a bargain!. He's done the research to price his things accordingly, and he has done deals for people buying multiple items.
It would be an interesting project if I had the time and space though, don't even have time to complete my own car! Lol. Now I know why build threads take an eternity! Things never goes according to plan, and it's very time consuming!!
Jojo is the king fisherman around these parts!
p.s. Prawn, why havent you gone for an independant rear setup from an s3/tt? Is that something you'd like just to see if it really is beneficial??
He's just a spammer wasting everyone's time. His post count is evidence of this
Like yours? Joined 5 years later than Jo and not far off his total lol
keen to see this!
Too much effort for not enough gain really SK, you'd need to graft in an entire S3 floorpan, same level of work as involved in a 4wd conversion.
I like playing the under-dog with my wrong wheel drive shopping car.
See you all at ADI
See on Thursday mate!
