Erm I think you better put some music on it ;)

Stick some more Pendulum on as that seemed to go down quite well.

    Nice one mate.

The only reason i got past you was because I was on boost and you were off it as you let the Porka through, I then just used the porka's line and speed throught the last corners as he seemed to know the track :)

Not sure if this link will work as I took it off youtube this morning before it had finished processing, but the vid now plays on my phone, so it might work!

YouTube - Nurburgring lap in audi A3 1.8T

Fastest and final lap of the week done on Monday night, had to slow down through a very fast section for a yellow flag, and an english clio that dropped into the Karousel then appeared to just about stop, I had to hammer the brakes on half way round!

still, amazing fun. We're now about to start building another 1.8T A3 as a DRT, so I don't have to use my every day car

OMG!!! :applaus:You were going for it. Balls of steal :sadlike: Not one person passed you

Impressive!! Right I'm up for trip next year!

I bet the Germans would love a fleet of Audi's flying around their track

    Cheers folks.

There's still a load of places I backed off though, where previously I've taken flat, it's just a case of knowing your limits, and when i do 400 miles a week in the car for work I certainly wasn't about to push it to the limit and risk wrapping it up!

S3 baby, this was my 3rd trip out there, once last september where I did 2 wet laps and 4 dry laps, once at easter this year where i did 6 wet laps, then last week I did 11 dry laps, so 23 in total. 3 of them in my Mini.

Nice going Prawn, not too sure what the Clio was doing!

I really want to get a car that I dont care about and get it stripped and caged and then put in some serious laps to get to know all the corners.

yup, my Dad and i agreed after I took him out that to really get the best from it you need a decent dedicated car.

As a result, we've decided to strip and cage my old 1.8T A3 and turn it into a DRT! it's already got a full suspension setup and 240bhp, so it's not a huge amount of work to prepare it!

yea I will when the time comes, but sadly it's a long way off due to moneys! This car will probably have one more outing around Easter/may time, then I'll whip off the porsche brakes and start the transformation on the old car. it's currently sat on my drive doing absolutely nothing.

Prawn/Westle/S3 baby Does it get any easier the more you go, or do you still find yourself in a '**** I dont remember that corner' situation?

the more laps you do the more you know it I find Dane, my first 2 laps were properly scary last year, but now I feel I know it fairly well. there are certainly no surprises anymore and I knowexactly what's comming after each corner, but some people will learn it faster than others.

My memory is not very good and I only go to the Ring once a year so I can remember sections of the track as in its a left or a right but it's just so difficult to remember camber and blind summits and what's coming up the other side.

Does having GT4 on a PS2 help with memorising the track?

i play it on forza 3 a fair bit, and I can appreciate that it's fairly accurate, but aside from knowing which direction the track goes it's not a huge help, you can't get a feel for the cambers, gradients, and most importantly crests.

SO much time can be made up by knowing which crests and blind bends can be taken flat, when you brake for a crest you don't need to, you not only loose the initial speed, but also it results in a lower top speed by the end of the next bit!

This is what i found when I went this year. It's the first time i've been. slowing down when you don't need to you can see me breaking in the second video.
a few more laps under my belt and i'll be happy to do a hot lap. traffic permitting..

Looks good chaps. Enjoyed the videos and bought a smile to my face. I was in Antwerp over the bank holiday weekend and hired a car. I had the route for the ring but in the end the heavens opened and opted out to driving there :(

I totally envious and some nice driving there Prawn :)

Speaking of racing, anyone think we should try a UK one first? Maybe silverstone? or the like?

This is a great opportunity for newbies on the track, you can sign up for one individual session on the day! Castle Coombe is quite a basic track to learn too.

Sign up and park with Audi-Sport in the events section. :)

This is my plan, assuming i get my butt in gear and get everything sorted!

Ive never driven on a track before so I was thinking it would be a good introduction.

As previously stated I fancy a track car for the ring among other things. Could probably budget around 2k. What does everyone reckon? I was thinking n/a and light...maybe a civic vti?
