Oil warning light flashing!

Hi,

While driving to work this morning the red oil warning light came on. Am I right in thinking this is the oil pressure warning light?
I changed the oil and filter about a month ago but I did not turn off the oil service message which has been coming up when I first turn on the card for about a month as I do not have access to VAG COM. I am not a mechanic or anything but I have replaced things like brakes and throttle body using the haynes manual so I can do minor repairs.

Any suggestions as to what the fault is before I get home and check it out further?
I have an Audi A3 1.6 sport 1998 and from what I remember the engine code is AKL.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I assume you have checked the oil level today? Does the engine sound tappety when the light comes on? Could be the oil strainer is blocked...

Thanks for the reply, the oil level is fine and the engine sounds like normal. I'll drain it out tomorrow and see if there is anything in there that shouldnt be.
