Oil Pressure: I'm in a fix and need advice

    idle could be a few things .

    start with trying to remove the oil cap with it ticking over. see what it does to the idle.

    should be no more difficult than removing it when the engines off. and it should only upset the idle slightly.

    but if the cap is held down by vacuum within the engine crankcase. and on removing it if the car near stalls with a big rush of air thru the open oil cap..... then you need a new pcv valve unit thats attached to the cam cover.

    as thats where the engine is finding the unmetered air to upset the idle.

    Thanks Murran ... there is a new pickup pipe in now and done 500 miles on it without an issue. Hopefully it didn't cause any damage while it was blocked.

    Tried this, the cap was certainly under vacuum and it did nearly stall the engine on removal with a whoosh of air.
    Is it a bad thing to keep running it for a few more days until I can get the part? Is that part 035 103 245 G ?

    suspected as much. give tps a ring they'll know all about what part/s you'll need.

    fitting's pretty easy. theres a guide on here somewhere (for an a3. very much the same on yours tho)......
