oil light flashed up?

was driving my dads a4 1.8t on motorway , was driving it hard and oil light flashed up so stopped checked oil and was ok , restarted car oil light stayed off there was tapping from engine but then went away after a while , could it be the oil pump?

Was it the Oil pressure light? If it was then you should have stopped, the tapping from the engine could indeed be the oil pump on its last legs. Maybe you're suffering from the classic sludge problem?

Mine flashes up when cornering hard sometimes, but only usually when it's getting a bit low. Try the dipstick when the engines cooled down and the oil has settled as you won't get an accurate reading when hot. If it was the pump the error would have reoccurred I would have thought.

i think i did take a sharp turn around the roundabout then it flashed up
