OK since purchase and subsequent mileage have done just short of 3000k.

Oil was replaced after purchase, funny old thing it is starting to become slightly discoloured now.

My problem is having driven oil burners for over a decade+ I have no visual "gauge" to verify oil pollutant levels in a petrol engine.

I know the 1.8t is hard on its oil but when do you run and cut for a change?

Current go juice is Fuchs/nee/silkolene ester 5w-40.

Any advice welcome.

Dealers say ever 10k but to keep the sump free off crap and the oil pump in good order do it every 6-8k and use the larger oil filter from the B6 or the massive one from the transporter !!

The a4 1.8t carries almost a litre less oil than it's transverse counterpart so is very hard on oil. I change ours around 6k with full synth and the 2.4 transporter filter. This adds about 1/2 a litre more oil to the capacity
