they appear to be working now!
no bulb out errors on my 2012 A3 quattro
They are not that bright either - but noticably brighter than the OEM halogen

Will report back in a while - going on a longer drive this evening

Mine arrived today but bring up a DIS error as soon as the sidelights are switched on, mines a 2010 :-( What's also odd, is when I switch my lights on, for a split second, I get an error first about my rear right light but its working? When I had the A5 LEDs installed, I would also get this error? I wonder why mine aren't working but yours are on both a 2010 and 2012? Any ideas?

Figured out the rear light warning. The previous owner had fitted the wrong bulb, less wattage, causing the random warning every now and then. Still no clue with the LED number plate lights though.

    Hey Cruiser,

Its a 2010 3 door 170 TDI. That's a good point actually. I think it was ticked when I tried to fit the A5 LEDs but I think I unticked it again when it didn't work, as my CE is too low for the coding to take effect. I can double check tomorrow, do you think that could cause it?

    Thanks for your reply.

So, checked my settings and it isn't selected in VCDS, so not sure what to try now :-(

Emailed the seller who said would send another set but I don't think that will help TBH.

How come you took such a hard approach, i just bought some off ebay a guy called LED lighting with built in canbus error resistors and they have been working for over a year no problems and no extra wring needed just plug n play

2010 cars seem to be a problem for LED number plates. DIS errors for just about all bulbs.

Ok, update. I emailed the seller and explained that they still produce an error on the DIS, I just received a replacement set today and NO ERROR! The replacement set were exactly the same as before, so looks like they were just faulty. Will report in a few weeks or so but so far, no errors on my 2010 8P, with no changes via VCDS.

    Hello
    2010 8PA Manufactured in Apr.
Ordered it from the e-bay seller and installed.
No ERROR in the DIS but the housing of the new light where it clips to the rear lid is bit thinner than OEM
So it falls even with the bolts tightened.

I have added couple layers of tape to the new LED housing and it fits and sits perfectly at the rear lid.

I seem to have another weird issue. If i start the car and then switch lights on, no error. If i switch lights on first, then start the car, i get a number plate bulb error. Switch engine off, turn lights off, start car, lights back on, no error! Can someone with a set of these and a 2010+ please try this for me?

    Hi mate,

I am sure I don't get these errors and this is on a 2010 A3.

The OEM A5 ones used to bring up an error on my DIS until i changed the coding in VCDS(Byte 17 bit 7).My friends who have 2010 and 2012 A3's bought had errors but they both vanished after they changed their coding.I had to gently stretch out the metal connectors on the A5 lights as they were shorter than the original ones and kept turning off once they became a bit loose .

It threw an error couple of times, but now I leave my light settings to Auto to have the CH/LH function work

It does not throw an error now even though I start the engine.

    :)

You definitely have friends with a 2010 (MY10) who have installed the OEM A5 LEDs and have been able to change their coding and get them working?

I dont have auto lights. Oh well, I guess I will just have to remember. Its just a pain to turn off the lights before I restart the car.

I guess this is the other option, just to go to Audi and get the software on the CE updated.

A quick update in case anyone else wants these. After I retrofitted Bi-xenons, I don't get the error when re-starting the car with the lights on. I have no idea why, as no settings apart from coding for the headlights has been changed.

I got the error with OEM A5 LED plate lights. Then I bought Kufatek resistors: same error. So I disabled the "cold check" AND "load management" (VCDS Module 09 Byte 17 bit 7 and 8 - not 100% sure about bits) and the error went off! Hope it works for you too...

    Finally finished my experiment with the results I was looking for, therefore I can confirm that;

    If you have
    - a 2009+ 8P3 facelift car (mine is an MY10 Black Edition A3), so 2009-2012
    - the Kufatec LED resistor adapter in place
    - any LED bulbs, so it would seem (**Important to note that the eBay bulbs I'm using have packs attached which I assume are resistors. They are £8 for a pair and purchased here:
    http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170759453346)

... = You don't get any dash errors and the canbus works happily alongside them with both bulbs illuminated. I even got a bulb error when I misfitted one, suggesting that obviously both LED plate lights were not illuminated, which is exactly what I wanted.

**Important to also note I've not changed anything in VAGCOM, factory settings as far as the LED or bub diagnosis coding is concerned.

So for anyone wishing to run LED's with the Kufatec LED resistor adapter, you don't necessarily have to buy the OEM expensive Audi own LED plate bulb domes, you can run 'regular' LED bulbs like or the same as the ones I am.

I'm 2 weeks in now, no errors, no issues with lighting and finally cracked the combination I needed. I'll post a pic shortly - no-one seemed to have clearly and concisely yet confirm that this combination works on 8P3 facelift cars so I thought I'd do so :thumbs up::arco:

think you will find that they only last a few months the heat sink on the rear isnt big enough to cool the load and the resistor will burn away the circiut board of the light , you'll probably find that the drivers side is the first one to fail ,this is from my own experience , i just bought a pack of ten direct from china , easy 2 mins job to swap the bulb when it fails

Unlikely, a friend has run a set for over a year on his Ibiza FR, I've also got plenty of spare sets from different suppliers and different types.
Halfords also do a similar set that friends in recent hot hatches have run successfully for months and months.

The point was the experiment for a working combination with the Kufatec adapter on facelift cars, not specifically the bulb supplier I used (not sure if you understood that).
