Obsolete ECU?

Has anyone heard mention of the ECUs in pre 99 A4s being obsolete? - this is in regards to ECU chipping.

Apparently these earlier cars have 44-pin eproms that require removal and fitting of the new chip with the uprated map, however the blank 44-pin eproms are no longer available?

Has anyone else come across this when looking at getting their cars chipped?

Maybe I should ask has anyone recently had their early '99 or pre '99 A4 chipped and by who?

i had mine remapped from amd about 4 years ago and mines a 96

When my mate at http://www.rstuning.co.uk/ looked into doing mine he could only get the chips from the US, he bought over 100 of these knowing they were hard to get hold of in the uk !!

custom code were going to do mine for me a few weeks ago, but i can't decide what to do, so i guess they have a supply.
