I'm planning on a trip to the Ring this year at some point as I've had a pass from the wife because it's on my bucket list!
I'm thinking maybe July/August for probably 5 days. I'm also thinking about heading to Stuttgart to the Porsche museum while I'm there.

Wondered if anyone would be up for it?!

Try and get to the Autostadt in Wolfsburg. Such a cool collection of cars from all brands! Also, the nordschleife is an amazing track. I went around it in a series 5 BMW when I was over there.

I visited the Autostadt in Wolfsburg last year whilst I was on holiday in Germany for two weeks. The only slight problem is that it's 300 miles north of the Nurburgring which is a long way to go if you are only in Germany for a few days. The countryside around the Nurburgring is very nice with some good driving roads. The B258 down towards Ulmen is very good and at Ulmen you can pick uo the A1 Autobahn towards Trier. You can then take the A60 up towards Liege in Belgium, again a great road. Both the A1 and A60 have sections with no speed limit. The A60 can be a good way in to and out of Germany from Liege.

We go to that area and the Mosel Valley every year for at least one week and then a second week somewhere else in Germany.

If you need any more information just let me know.

I'll have a look. I was thinking of doing it all myself though, those organised trips are good but they're expensive. Be loads cheaper to do it myself I think. Appreciate all comments and ideas though!
It's something I've always wanted to do and think I'd rather do it sooner than later with having a baby as she'll only get more expensive!!

If you do the Porsche Museum in Stuttgart make sure you also do Mercedes Benz (spits at the gorund!) world at the same time. Whilst I'm not a big fan of MB's it is one of the finest automotive museums I've ever visited.

The Porsche Museum is stunning, a great building with a great (but smallish) display of cars. They do good (reasonable) food at the restaurant too. We did a couple of days at the ring, then got up the next morning did another lap, left for Stuttgart (2+hr drive) and did the Porsche Museum in an afternoon. We then stayed overnight at a cheapish hotel in the middle of Stuttgart and got up the next day and did MB museum (took until early afternoon).

We then headed back to Strasbourg before heading off to Paris but you get some really good autobahn blats between all of the above. Just wish I'd had more time to do Audi museum. Maybe next time. I'll dig a few high point photos out later.

No, the green hell days are simply subsidised track sorties. It's not an organised event as such, just times when the track doesn't have a high incidence of manufacturer (primarily Nissan and jaguar recently) testing.

I think the track costs sit at 105 euro for 3 laps during the subsidised periods.

    Cool. I'm near Nottingham.
I thought there'd be quite a few people interested in this, but obviously not!

If you want to drive around the Ring then check that there is public availability when you go. It spend a lot time closed to the public.

Even if it currently shows availability be aware that they can still close it without notice for private use.

And don't go on the opening weekend of the year like we did; schoolboy error. I've never seen queues like it. Took over an hours to get into Nurburg from about 3 miles away. Also very hard to get in for a lap as the queues are horrendous for the track.

That's why it's adviseable to go on the Greeen Hell weekend / mid-week dates. Guaranteed track access, weather dependant and cheaper to boot :)

A tip any way is keep to the right, do not try to do racing lines, I was on a quick bike and you can look into your mirrors, there's nothing behind, ok focus in front, then wow, what the **** was that????
There's people on there that are seriously and I mean seriously fast. They pass you so fast you have a job to tell that colour whatever it was that just passed you.

Don't forget if it's you that gets the ring closed they will charge you and it's not cheap. But what an experience........ definitely on the bucket list.

German road rules apply. Only allowed to overtake on the left and you must indicate your intentions. I've completed almost 900 laps and gave always been passed at some point. Once by a kangoo van on the entrance to Adenau forest exit uphill. No shame, he was an incredible driver. 3 wheels everywhere. We got him later in the lap but his corner speed and skill were evident. It's not what you're in its how you use it.

I used to think I was fast until I got a demo from Taki Okada in a GTR in 2012. It was hilarious. Jaguar had the f type coupe there for testing and we blitzed their ultra secret demo mule with approx 700hp in development mode every 6 laps.

Taki was sublime and the skill bled from his fingertips. Wondrous.

I'm not even slightly considering giving it full pelt round there, just want to have a go round it. I've done lots of track driving and had instruction from some racing drivers and can push a bit but there's no way I'll give it the beans in my own brand new car! It's far too dangerous! Round the GP circuit would be a different story, would give it the beans round there.

    Hey geefunk1978

Me and my friend are going to Germany in late august early sept for a 7/10day road trip. Hopefully going to Porsche, Audi, Vw, Spa race circuit and also the nurburgring.

I'll be in my new A3 sport misano red and my friend will be in his e30 Baur cabriolet.

Sure to be a good crack
