went to gti int on sunday, i did like the german style number plates
they numbers and letters seemed to be embossed through the number plate saw them at the show and they stated that these are show plates only. im thinking probable reason for this is, that people wouldnt have carried the relavant documents as proof of registration or are these not reflective or something? is there a website that you can see all the legal plate styles?

    thanks

There is no such thing as legal styles, only the standard issue type of plate is legal. I run german style plates and have on my last 3 cars and have never had any bother (though I have probably jinxed myself now!).

Dubmiester, get them from there, as long as the numbers on the plate are the right size and the right spacing you shouldn't have a problem they are classed as show plates though, the only illegal bit is if you get the D on the side but I know lots of people with theses plates I have just ordered mine and I knowof no one who has been pulled.

I got pulled with mine last week, it was by a jobsworth in a panda car who was getting driven round by a WPC and was probably fed up. He said I was trying to deceive people into thinking it is a German car (I thought Audi was German) I had the 'D' band then the first two letters 'OY' then a space with the replica plakettes and stadt seals then the rest of the numbers and apparently it was illegal. I had my originals in the boot which shut him up. I am gutted now because they looked so much better. I might get some more without the spacing and without the 'D'? What annoys me is you still get these plonkers with personalized plates with letters flipped round and the screw cap making a 'O' an '8' etc but thats ok?

I think as long as you have the correct letters / numbers on then it should not be a problem. How many sheds do you see on the road with faults like brake lights not working, rusty bodywork and so on, and that's acceptable?

The DVLA are spoilsports, all you are doing is accessorizing your car, just like a bird would buy new ear - rings or a hand bag.:blownose:
