greetings ya'll

Looking for a Non-resonated exhaust for the S3

Any recommendations? Hearing not great things about the Milltek.

Cheers

KKP

I had a non res milltek on my a4 and had no complaints but the one to get for the s3 from what I've read seams to be the bcs powervalve. At least that's what I'm saving for

It's got a vacuum line for bypassing on boost I think but not 100% sure where it runs to.

And only available as a full system

Milltek served me well here, with no warranty issues, but times change, and I think the BCS is the current best.

All of the non-resonated systems may suffer from some drone in the mid-range.

Got to be a BCS powervalve, you will get more power on boost as well as off boost, no additional cabling.

Where does this pipe go to?

The powervalve comes with a boost tap which connect to the inlet manifold.
This controls the valve depending on boost.

Nothing wrong with the Milltek if you're after performance, BUT, the non-res system does resonate at motorway speeds.

You seem to know your onions as the saying goes and I'm not sure if I want more wiring etc with the BCS so might go with the Milltek.

Anyone on here running EMP? They're not very far from me and I have heard good things of them.

Exactly how bad are non res on motorways ?

Depends how old you are and how many motorway miles you do! I've got the resonated system and find it just about right for me, no drone, but just about loud enough on boost. On tickover it's quiet but much deeper than oem. It's got noisier over time as the system soots up!

Some interesting points in here, all the videos I've listened too, the resonated system sounds very quiet. Hence why I've been considering the de-res cat back system.

Has anyone ever de-resonated the standard system? or would that be a pointless stage between that and a full catback.

You can't beat the BCS, even with the valve clamped partially open like mine you don't get any drone.

It's all about the middle silencer removing that drone and making it subtle when needed but ear bleedingly loud when you want

I have to admit the difference between the Milltek and the BCS is Night and Day. I have had both and at first i loved the Milltek but sitting at 80 on the motorway you get a drone with the non res which started to get on my nerve. Now with the BCS you wouldnt even know it is there unless you press on the go faster pedal which then it turns into a raging beast!

....

There's no wiring with the BCS.....just a connection from a boost tap on the manifold,to a boost pressure actuated valve on the exahust itself.
If you have any doubts, contact Nigel @BCS Nige

I think there would be no point in doing that,as you could get the non-resonated system in the first place.

I've effectively done that,as we had to at some point,so it's basically a non-resonated system.
We did try removing the back box and going with a mid-section silencer but that was just unbelievably loud.

Everyone seems to say non res is pretty annoying. And I'm just trying to get an idea. I m only 21 so I don't think it would be to annoying and I drive around in a 1.8 corsa as a daily with a pretty noisy exhaust and do 360 motorway miles a week at 80mph.

If anyone could post a short vid of them at "drone speed" I'd appreciate that.

You never really get the noise on video ,the sound of the bcs is far Superior to any miltek I have heard

Trust me.....
I've had a few very loud cars including an ex-GpN Escort, with an exhaust bolted to the chassis, and this isn't a million miles off it.

It's the price you pay, unless you have a system which can do both, like the BCS.

I'm 22 and the drone that the standard exhaust created at motorway speeds did my head in, it wasn't a nice noise but was a constant annoying noise, at least the BCS can be whatever you want it to be.

What I love about it is that it's an exhaust that can be easily made quieter/louder in 10 mins with a simple mod to the butterfly valve where as if you buy a non res your stuck with it with no way to quieten it down.

Im 20 and have a 2+ setup with decat/non res cobra turbo back and i dont find it annoying in the slightest, cruising along at 70-80 id say it was pretty silent tbh unless you give it substantially more throttle input then it will make noise as it accelerates but shuts up as soon as you let off and go to a steady foot again, even around town pottering about keeping it under 2k revs through the gears it's quite,
then again im coming from a stripped out naturally aspirated 2.0 clio with a decat/non res exhaust that wound bang flames out, and i never found that annoying and would drone much more than the audi, so much so at 80mph youd have to shout to talk to the passenger hahaha! Ill only use my car on a night or weekend as i have a works van for commuting, i could use the audi no bother for commuting though (250miles a week).
The clio... Maby not
But that was made for track work

Out of interest what have you guys paid for your bcs systems for something sufficient for stage 2+? As when I called up I've been quoted including a referral discount and it was 1.4k :/ but I have a feeling that was a little overspecced for what I need.

Was around a grand but had a group buy discount with mine, think the decat version is only around a grand though.

See, I'm one of the very few on here that use the S3 (stage 2+) as a daily and all rounder, everyone else seems to have work cars/vans so get a break from their S3's during the week and living with it on a daily basis is completely different to having it as a toy hence why i would never put up with a non res constantly.

However, having the valve wedged open like mine makes it sound like a non res but because of the centre silencer it removes the frequency that creates drone on other systems. Its all about frequency with sound, not always loudness that irritates

I can imagine! Unfortunately a second hand non resonated is all I'll be able to afford.

It'll drown out the diff whine!!!!

I think you've hit the nail on the head there. Mine is also a weekender. I love the concept of the powervalve. Just I don't think I can justify the cost unless a used one pops up.

I'm visiting EMP on Thursday, any thoughts?

The chap I spoke to today (Paulo) says he's has a system on his Cupra 2.0 TSI which is the same engine so hopefully get some comparisons

Happy to give you the forum members discount.
Powervalve and non Powervalve systems available...
Cheers

Nige, hope your well, how much would you charge for just the decat section for my powervalve system?

My milltek catback cracked on the weld where the pipe meets the back box when I enquired about the warranty they tried everything to avoid swapping even suggesting it was installed wrong so ended up just having it welded up when I had the downpipe build

When a weld cracked on the backbox on mine(admittedly with some serious abuse by then),it was replaced immediately, with no questions asked.

It might only be a Sportback thing, but my 8p S3 has a valve which looks like it works off a vacuum similar to the BCS systems. If budget allows and your looking for performance and everyday driving noise when wanted then surely it'd have to be BCS as it's been highly recommended on the site?
Saying that I'm considering a Milltek at the moment mainly because I only want to go cat back.

Anyone heard/read/had experience with Tony Banks - Longlife exhausts

I was briefly speaking to a lad on Facebook a few days ago who was quoted £600 fitted for a custom turbo back....!!!!

Are they based somewhere north like Leeds ?
I'm sure they have worked on a lot of turbo backs on z20let engines and people within the Vauxhall scene raved about them.
