I purchased my Audi A3 1.6 tdi trip tronic in Sept last year 31,000mls one owner and driving the vehicle experienced no signs of what was to come.
6 months later after a round trip journey of 200mls when parking the car it lost drive forwards or reverse.
On calling AA they discovered two fault 3rd and 6th gear selection faults, on re setting and I was able to drive the but the gearbox was making a row and then lost drive again in a very short distance.
Taking the car to a independent Audi sppecialist garage (authorised by AA as had repair covert £500) it turned out to be the control unit (first diagnosis) on receiving the new ecu it came with a bulletin from Audi stating the g/box needed inspecting for certain signs. On inspection and finding these certain signs, it was stated that a new g/box was required as well. Cost overall £55 short of £6,000.00.
On contacting Audi for some sort of help or goodwill I have been totally blanked.
Hence my rant do you think a 3.5 year old vehicle that has done 35,000 miles does not deserve some compensation weather or not I'm the original owner or second. The vehicle had a service history the last two not at a dealer.
On investigating its past history the only warranty item done was a seat belt replacement.
As a motor vehicle technician for 27years I am glad I am out of this trade.
