hello people,

i have just ordered a new suspension kit for my audi a3 20v 1999

could some one please tell me how to change the front shocks, what tools i would need, i know all about spring compression but need urgent help on the shock change.

thank you so much in advance.

chris

I'm going to be installing coilovers on my A4 soon (KW Variant 2s). On the front of the A4 I would need to

1) Remove the pinch bolt - this is usually in very tight so penetrating liquid and breaker bar required. When the bolt is loose you'll often need a punch and a mallet to punch out the bolt.

2) Remove the retaining clip in the shock tower (long bent needle nose pliers required)

3) Remove the three bolts in the engine bay, holding in the shock tower

4) Remove the bolt holding the lower part of the shock to the suspension

5) Remove the unit being careful not to catch anything and work on the unit on a workbench (if you need to reuse old bits then you'll need the spring compressors here).
