New shape S line steering wheel on a 2003 audi a3

Harris
I didnt say buy the proper bits for nothing. You cant make that set up work on your car....its that simple.

sorry just confused because people are saying you cant fit it and some people are saying you can but its 50/50 chance if the airbag will deploy or not.

okay so got a little update, been the garage today and got my car on the computer, i'll start with the airbag faults

Air bag faults -

024c - Driverside front airbag ignitor circuit 1 maximum exceeded

0634 - ignition circuit headbag driverside, maximum exceeded

028E - belt tensioner ignition circuit driverside, front less then minimum

04C2 - ignition circuit side airbag passenger side front maximum exceeded

esp faults -

030A - Steering wheel angle sensor mechanical fault

032A - Front axle pressure sensor basic setting not performed/ wrong

030A - Steering wheel angle sensor basic setting not performed/wrong

058F - lateral acceleration sensor basic setting not performed / wrong

This is the bottom line.

With the correct ECU and Slipring you can fit it fine and there will be no fault codes but there is a chance that your airbag may not deploy if you're ever in an accident.

If you're not bothered about the airbag deploying (which you should be) then by all means buy an ECU and Slipring and keep the wheel and it'll pass MOT's no problem but our recommendation, for obvious reasons, is to go back to your original wheel in order to know that the single stage airbag will deploy on impact.

Definitely need to change the ECU/Slipring or Revert back to the original wheel.

The fact that Drivers Ignitor 1 is only mentioned and not Ignitor 2 means that the ECU/Slipring is only looking for 1 Ignitor (Single stage airbag)

Like I said in my previous post, I'd recommend changing back to the original Single-stage airbag which will fix all of your problems and you'll probably end up in profit as you'll be able to sell the wheel and airbag you have now for ~£250 and pick up a Single Stage wheel and airbag for ~£50

Listen to what you are being advised please, running out & buying another wheel with proper airbag will help 1 thing, but wont resolve everything, you need to clear or fix the other warnings present, namely the angle sensor etc that need calibrating, once these have cleared then attack the airbag issues, they're 2 different systems, not 1 problem, but 2.

so far i need to get the original wheel, o/s curtain airbag, o/s seat belt with tensioner.

04C2 - ignition circuit side airbag passenger side front maximum exceeded

does anyone know what i will need to get to cure this?

and the steering wheel angle sensor fault wil that dissapper when the new steering wheel is fitted?

032A - Front axle pressure sensor basic setting not performed/ wrong

030A - Steering wheel angle sensor basic setting not performed/wrong

058F - lateral acceleration sensor basic setting not performed / wrong

isnt basic setting something to do with cailbrating, when you turn the wheel to the left, turn to the right, drive forward etc..?

okay i'm listening, so i need to attack these ones first -

032A - Front axle pressure sensor basic setting not performed/ wrong

030A - Steering wheel angle sensor basic setting not performed/wrong

058F - lateral acceleration sensor basic setting not performed / wrong

done a bit of research on the internet and found this -

VW Golf (1K) Brake Electronics (MK60) - Ross-Tech Wiki

it looks like its got the information to cailbrate all 3 of these (let me know if i'm wrong)

will it have to be done on a vagcom because my friend has a bosch diagnostics system?

030A - Steering wheel angle sensor mechanical fault - will this result in me having to get a new steering wheel angle sensor and should i get this before i do cailbration?

sorry about all the questions i just dont know much about this :sorry:

Yes try & calibrate the angle sensor etc 1st, if that still shows issue with sensor then you'd need to strip down the steering column to check the pins/connections as if someone's been messing with that area, they may have fitted it back badly & yes use VCDS, not the bosch rubbish.

so i need to find someone with a vag com to get the sensors calibrated, i have put a thread up to try and find someone near me, amar06fbr has kindly offered to help me but he does seem pretty far away in bradford, i dont suppose theirs anyone on this thread who lives a little bit closer to the west midlands with a vag com and could kindly help? if worst comes to worse i will just drive 100 miles to bradford.

i've found someone thats in cheshire and is willing to help, so fingers crossed might be able to get these sensors calibrated pretty soon.

im gona be at tamworth saturday around 7pm

bez tamworth is pretty close and i'm free saturday night aswell, so might have to take you up on that offer, pm me your number

Just got back from meeting bez in tamworth, gotta say what a real nice helpful guy! we've managed to calibrate evrythin and now the esp light is off but now my steering has gone really heavy, like my powersteering pump has stopped, it was pretty dangerous on the drive back, next step I think is to get the new steering wheel.

Thats part of the calibration, when you do these, sometimes you have to do the steering angle sensor again as it can reset it & steering becomes hard, but in most cases a drive down the road should clear this, if not then needs another vcds calibration doing.

i did the angle sensor 2 times it just would not let me do the Steering Limit Stop Adaptation i tried 5 6 times just wouldnt have it

codes below im back down his way weekend last night i was really busy had a daft meal had to sort so couldnt have any longer on it
i had to do my a3 angle sensor then the steering limit stop a few days ago and that did it 1st try i dont think the steeringwheel bag has had the wireing modded

I've also got a problem with my central locking, everytime I lock the car, the alarm goes off and the only way I can stoip the alarm is by opening and closing the passenger door and then it will lock. Does any of these fault codes look like the suspect?

Are those codes after your calibrations Bez?

If after then tbh mate there's a fair few faults there, needs properly looking at & checking through 1 by 1.

NHN yes after
theres quite a few to get through
as i said i just didnt have more time its had a side crash if i rember right clocks plastic is cracked so i thing they have replaced the dash or it was hit hard but iv told him get a wheel and ill refit and have a good look through the codes

Yeah tbh its only thing you can do, go through 1 by 1.

its gona cost

Yeap exactly, that list of faults, wont be a quick fix.

I worked on a fellow forum members car with the 00778 Steering Angle sensor fault and Stop Limit fault.

Tried to calibrate but wouldnt calibrate properly so went about replacing the Slip Ring and calibrated and worked fine. Could be the same here?

Regardless of the steering wheel being the wrong one the Steering Angle sensor fault shouldnt be there.

Like said above, not gonna be an easy task.. I'd love to get my hands on it haha.

i also think its the slip ring
after the crash it was fully bodged

oh while your here how much for cruise cowl and dis stalk posted ?

that will do me
bank transfer ?

You & me both, its a challenge car lol

Yeap as I mentioned further up, wheel & steering angle are independent, so need to deal with seperately, but after what Bez has said, god knows what they've done to the car, just hope it was dirt cheap.

You need someone to spend time on the car to look at fixing the issues, no other way.

been today to collect a few bits for the car, 2004 3 spoke audi steering wheel, including air bag and all of the steering column, air bag module, passenger and drivers seat belt tensioners, drivers and passengers curtain roof airbags (only drivers is needed) and a dash board that i didnt need but the guy gave me.

hopefully after getting these fitted and a little help off bez and his vagcom, we can clear a few of the faults

i dont mind codeing them up ill even go as far as fitting the wheel slipring etc
but you will have to sort the roof bags module and seatbelt bits
i just wont have time to fit the rest
ill be passing tamworth as every week but i aint got hours as i head to south wales to see my missus and kid on the weekends

no problem bez, i'll get everything fitted first apart from the steering wheel and column, thanks for your help

you want the column fitting ?

no just the wheel and slip ring, i just said that because the column is connected to the wheel at the moment
