    Hi,

First post on your great looking forum.

Just picked up my one owner 2000 'X' facelift S3 today in Silver. Love the car, but just have one issue:ermm:

I would really like to swap the Audi Concert cassette player for an Audi CD player. Apart from the A3/S3, do Audi make any CD players that fit into the same hole:unsure: I don't want an aftermarket unit.

    Any help would be great.

    Cheers

    Marcus

The facelift s3's have a slightly different shape hole I believe so you cant use the CD players from those and I dont think they made CD players for our prefacelift cars. Do you have a 6 disc changer in the back? I took mine out and put in a Phatnoise Phatbox which is a 20gb hard drive in place of the changer. Had to modify it slightly to fit in the same hole. Its amazing plus you get to keep a genuine audi head unit despite there being an out of date tape player in it! You can get them for about £100 on ebay, originally they were £600 from dealers.

Phatbox definately the way to go; they are stonkingly goood bits of kit and as PJ123 Says can be had for circa £100 on ebay. Mine was £58 and I love it for its sophistication and ability.

The phatbox sounds a good upgrade , is it a simple swap for the CD changer ?

    Cheers.

There are 2 types of casing, this one here which i bought and one with veins, think it is the VW one. The one i bought i then cut down to make it the width of the main body, ie chop off the useless looking side pieces. Then I modified the cd changer bracket to fit it on upside down and with the changer braket in its normal position and the back of the bracket missing there is just enough room to get the cartridge in and out. Have done the same for my a4 and installed in the glovebox in the same space the glovebox changer takes up. I really should get around to taking a photo of it, looks quite neat. You prob could modify the vw style ones but just more cutting! If you buy the VW one i think you will need to get the audi cable that goes between the cable in the car and the unit.

The only tip from me is make sure your firewall is switched off when you put music onto the cartridge else the voice prompts dont work correctly.

Ahh OK it doesn't sound too difficult then. There is one on eBay currently that been taken out of a 2007 RS4 , do you know if this would be a direct fit or a modification job ? I dont know how much the platform change would affect the box.

    Cheers.

i have a parrot mki 9200 which utilises my ipod or any other mp3 playerr, slightly more expensive at around £180 with the tiny box you'll need to buy....but overall you end up with a bluetooth unit and nice lil tft screen

Thats the facelift S3. Parrott is definitely a good alternative.

I think that one on ebay should fit, get a photo of the connector just to check. I cut mine down a little more, i'll take a photo tomorrow.

Marcuss as PJ says, its the facelift console but with the upgraded double DIN stereo Symphony HU.

My aim was to keep it as OEM as possible, i tried the Denison ipod connector which uses the HU controls, that was **** as you couldnt see the playlists you were selecting and i had a seperate bluetooth kit......this unit is all in one, downside is the cost and you have to buy a connect2 box to convert the lineouts, approx £30 on top of the mki9200
