New discs and pads at audi

I need new pads and discs on my car and have priced an Indy and a few Audi prices, the Indy came back at £285 and Audi came back at £312 all Inc. Do them prices sound about right and I am thinking I might as well go with the main Audi dealer as the price difference isn't that much.
What would you guys do and does the price seem ok???

Been a while since I did my own, I replaced the front disks and pads on my 2.0 B6 saloon when I had it, disks cost about £60 a pair and the pads about £40 from memory, took me about an hour to do maybe a little longer. So say £200 in bits plus 2 hours Audi labour, £300 douesnt sound too bad to me....
 
i would love to have the confidence to do it myself, but i defo couldnt trust myself doin something so vital as brakes lol.

would the discs be the same on my car as they were on your 2.0 b6 saloon quattrojames????

i spoke to a place called smashing (would you trust a place with a name like that) in leeds earlier and they say they can do the pads and discs for around £120 (non audi parts) and also a full service for £100 using genuine audi parts. does them prices sound too good to be true????
 
Prob different parts, there are differences between B6 and Cabs. Only had my cab since Dec last year so not done much to it yet apart from having the cambelt done (ouch). Others here might disagree but decent parts to do disks and pads all round are going to be the £200 mark, plus labour to fit so £100 labour (not much time at Audi rates), giving a total of £300 I personally dont think is bad.
 
defo agree with your ouch for the cambelt, the person who owned mine before me had the camblet done at a specialist in may 2010 and it was £476 (lucky for me).

i am of the same opinion, that decents parts have gottabe used for brakes, so think i will go with the dealer on this one. am sure i read on here or another forum that somebody paid £400 at dealer for pads n discs, so i agree £312 isnt too bad really
 
When the cambelt was done was it just the belt and tensioner ? Mine was expensive cos I got them do to the belt, tensioner, all the rollers, water pump and thermostat..... "cheap" cambelt jobs dont include the waterpump or rollers.
 
just looked at the invoice and it was cambelt, rollers and rollers and water pump, the price i said was with out VAT added, so was £476 +VAT to go on top.

i got a quote from audi when i looked at an a4 2.5 tdi cabriolet that needed a cam belt done and they wanted £806
 
at them prices for the pads n discs, it works out £180 for labour, £90 an hour i suppose, is it a 2 hour job to do them do you think??

not a bad main dealer price, i was quoted £806 from JCT 6OO in york for cambelt
 
At first I thought it is a stupid amount you have been quoted for just front discs/pads, but looking at n-tech there seems to be a lot of variation for the 2.5tdi from 256mm to 312mm discs. So if you have the latter it is a good price, if you haven't it seems rather excessive.

But then again if you are not comfortable doing it yourself you got to pay the money. I'll be putting on my Brembo discs and redstuff pads myself next weekend for a fraction of that.
 
Oops I just realised you mean just the fronts for £312.... I stand by standard discs £60 a paid and pads £40 ish, looks a little pricey but guess its a tough call if you dont want to do it yourself. The fronts especialy are really quite easy so change, about an hour, 2 tops as a DIY job.
 
dnt know what to do really, but any of the places ihave spoke to that can do the discs and pads cheaper can only do the job monday to friday, so would have to take a day off work to go to them, so add a days wage to the price and the audi price aint too bad, and audi can do the job on a saturday
 
Could argue for the sake of £100 do you want Audi to do it, it will come back clean and washed and you will get genuine parts....

Sounds like an easy choice then! Although I'd be amazed if that is true, I live in the south but any place is open on Saturday/Sunday here as well. But if not and you'd have to take time off otherwise, then of-course it is much cheaper.

As Cabbyfan suggest, if I had it done anywhere else I would want to know upfront what parts they would be using. For me, it is reason enough not to have it done at Audi as I prefer certain aftermarket parts which don't cause that much brake dust but each to their own.
 
i am surprised that places i have spoke too up hre arent open at least saturday morning, i haveonly just moved up here from london and know i could get it done in quite a few places down there on a saturday morning.

as you say about wanting to know hat parts would be used, its important to me too, i know they are audi discs and pads on at the moment and i get very little brake dust on the wheels, and thats makin me swing towards audi as i dont think brakes are to be skimped on.
 
Try giving Murrays Direct a ring as they supply OEM spec parts, as this will give you an indication on whether your getting a good deal on the parts.

I've used these before and never had a problem.
 
Buy your own parts and just get somewhere to fit them. GSF are your best bet, then at least you know they are genuine OEM.
Audi don't make discs or pads (or indeed anything to do with the maintenance of their cars), the parts they use are Pagid IIRC, but the Audi logo adds 50% to the price as it is drawn on by hand by naked super models!
Changing the front discs and pads is possibly the easiest job on a B6. If you can jack the car up and take the wheel off then you can certainly do it yourself. It's a lot easier with a 1/2" drive socket set with an 8mm hex socket (think it's 8mm, could be wrong, but they're about £4 for the hex socket). Try using an allen key you'll be there all day.

have had a wrd wth my bro in law to be and he said he will show me how to fit them if i go over to his, so think thats what i shall do

have had a look on GSF and i see they do brembo discs and EBC pads, would these be better than standard OEM parts or not really worth the little bit extra.?????

Thats a good idea.The parts wont cost a lot and you will see how straight forward it is .My son and I have done both our 2.5TDIs and he does most of the work now but we both like to make sure the job is done right.Garages can rush it and he once had a1.9TDI quattro fully audi history where they had fitted the wrong size pads and the previous owner hadnt even noticed the brakes juddering!so that was the first job when he bought it.I think you will need a wind back tool.
 
Don't genuine parts have 2 year warranty as opposed to 1 year for aftermarket?? worth paying a little more for genuine
