Having had standard lights, then facelift, then goin back to standard custom red lenses i thought it was a bit too much on a red car. So after seeking out some crystal style lenses, i decided to do a modern take on the facelift style lights as these look best on the B5. They are tinted red again, but still are crystal and i think a bit more clear and modern looking, hopefully lift the look of the back of the car without being too OTT.

Will get pics fitted to the car when i get car back.

Start with one set of chav lights:laugh:

    Some clever masking

Offensive looking maufacturer mark needed sanding

First coat of tint after a light sand all over unit to key it

2 Coats of tint and 2 coats of laquer were applied, last rub down before the last coat of clearcoat

    After 24hrs to cure

Carefully removed the masking tape to reveal....

Changed orange bulbs to silver/chrome indicators to keep it clean looking

    The end result

Im leaving them for another day or 2 to fully harden before removing some small spots of residue left from the masking tape, and thats it.

Nice one mate, I did this with a set of clear lights on my RST a few years back before reverting back to the smoked units.

    Cheers for comments:)

Ras-Theres no leds mate, was initially looking at some led type, but not sure if they look too out of place on the B5 and wasnt throwing £135 away at them.

Blue Thunder-Just normal run of the mill red light tint from ebay, any type does it really.

Mark-Facelift lights look the best imo, and already had a set before and sold them on, but these are definately similar, but different. You'll be able to see it better when they are fitted to a car, facelifts have a slight pinky section above the indicator which is different from the rest of the red and the frosting of the lenses look dated, these are crystal type that you can see right through, matching the facelift front light style. As said, i'll get a pic on the car to show alongside my pic when oem facelifts were fitted, should see the difference then.

Oh....and car is due back next week sometime, mid to end. Popped in last night to drop off some oem sideskirts before paint, saw the car ready in the paint booth, front bumper fitted just needed some work at wings then its getting painted, looked good, even when it was pink!!!! ha
