Had the TDi 170 for 6 days now, great car but get a whiff of burning smell after I've driven it - only when I get out of the car and it's only slight, but noticable.

Is this normal for a new car and should I be adding oil or something?

Mine did the same just once - going up a long hill on a dual carriageway (2 miles) and hit traffic at the top so was reduced to ~2mph. It's just engine components going through their first heat cycles and burning off assembly grease / paint etc. Nothing to worry about unless you see flames

Same happened with me when I first drove mine back in August with 8 miles on the clock. It's now 4k up and I've never smelt it since.

Do keep an eye on your oil though.
Many on here, including me,have found the Audi diesels can consume it at a frightening rate, especially for the first few thousand miles.
1000(ish) miles per litre is not unusual.

OK cheers guys - thanks for the advice, will keep an eye on the oil :)
