Following on from my thread in B8 A4/S4 section on ASN about my new S4
http://www.audi-sport.net/xf/thread...lack-edition-saloon-my-journey-so-far.240456/

This is my most thorough Detail to date, so here goes -

I asked the supplying Dealer the following requests when I knew the car had been delivered to the Uk

1. When the car is delivered to the Dealership can the white transit plastic film be removed (which I believe it has to be as part of the PDI), but otherwise do not touch it at all. No washing or any prep work of any sort
2. Can the car be supplied with 'normal' number plates. NOT the one's with the light blue EU flash at the ends
3. Can the number plates be stuck on with sticky pads and NOT screwed on
4. NO Dealer stickers in the rear window.
The Salesperson was great & followed all my requests. At collection, the car was in the 'no public access' part with signs in all the windows for the Dealership valeters not to touch the car
This is how I collected my new S4 -

The only mark I have found, to date, is a small scratch on the rear bumper which was easy enough to correct

Below is the process I went through –

Removed all the remaining transport film/cardboard from the exterior and interior

Snow foamed twice with CarChem super snow foam
2 bucket wash with lambswool mitt & a strong mix G3 Detox shampoo
Wheel arches cleaned with APC
Paintwork de-tarred with AF ObliTARarte
Paintwork decontaminated with CP Iron-X
All the wheels decontaminated with ObliTARate and Iron-X
Clayed all panels and glass using BH auto clay soft
Coat of AF Rejuvenate applied with a MF pad as a pre-wax cleanser
Coat of Prima Amigo applied a MF pad
2 x coats Obsession Wax Hybrid 86 applied with a damp Meguairs foam applicator
Exterior window rubbers and door mirrors treated with Werkstat acrylic glos
2 x coats of Planet Polish wheel seal and shine applied to the wheels
Tyres dressed with Meguairs endurance tyre gel
Exhaust tips cleaned and sealed with Britemax twins
Door & boot shuts treated with AF Tripple
Under bonnet cleaned with APC then all the plastics treated with Gtechniq C2V3 and the painted surfaces treated with AF Tripple
Interior surfaces cleaned with a mild APC then treated with a coat of Werkstat satin prot
Interior glass cleaned with CP Eraser
Interior mats treated with Gtechniq I1
Exterior glass cleaned with AG glass polish, then CP Eraser then 2 x coats of Angelwax H2GO rain repellent applied to windscreen & rear window & 1 coat to the remaining exterior glass

As usual for my Details, no ‘in progress’ photo’s, just the ‘completed’ ones

BH, what us your opinion of the paint finish of the car? Did it need much correction?

@Duggy72 - Other than the top 1/2 of the car being covered in the white transit film adhesive/glue (which I knew it would TBH), the paintwork was in surprisingly good condition. I've only found 1 small mark on the rear bumper, which was easy enough to correct

For me, it was definitely worth going down the road of 'Dealer no touch' route

Great result there BH, Love the Sig Pic aswell. You work round there? or just a nice location for a Piccy.
Funny, only issue I had on my S3 from Teesside Audi was a small mark on the rear bumber, only mine wouldn't polish out.

That's gorgeous and those brakes are to die for!

Can't imagine the feeling of literally opening your new car and taking all the 'transport packaging' off it (I know what I'm like with a toaster!) - must be E P I C!!

& yes it was rather special I must admit :)

Stunning job BH - some cracking products in there too !
I will be making similar requests of Coventry Audi when my S3 (daytona grey) arrives late Sept/early Oct (he said hopefully!).
I'd be interested in your view of the hardness of the paint in general terms. It obviously hasn't marked at all before you got your hands on it (other than one minor scratch) which is a good sign. Of course it might have been different if the dealer valeter had washed it....

I am merely an enthusiastic amateur in detailing - I'll be handing mine over to Robert at Incredible Detail in Glasgow for the new car detail after I drive it north.......

Thanks @sixlargebeers

Paint hardness seems ok at the mo. I saw the Dealer valeter washing the used cars on the forecourt cars when I collected mine. He had the dirty sponge and the sudless cold water and only rinsed the sponge before moving onto the next car! Made me shudder!

I'm Only a enthusiastic amateur Detailers too. It's just my OCD sometimes gets the better of me lol

PS Great username BTW ;)

Had the painful experience of watching a guy at the dealer giving the cars on the forecourt a quick spruce up. He had a shammy and a bucket with about 6 inches of black water in it. Watched him do about five cars, bodywork, windows, wheels. Made me shudder.

@Bristle Hound - do you class your as a hardcore detailer?

I've got into the detailing over the last 2 years, learning the techniques etc, but I noticed that some of the products you have used, I have never heard of before!

I'm always interested to hear of new/better products or those products that other members recommend.

Some of the products I use / used on my S4 detail were as a result of a fair few years trial & error & unfortunately quite a bit of money ! lol
Must admit I do like trying new products, but I have been good of late

As you probabaly already know car detailing is very subjective

I know about good waxes etc but when it comes to sealents etc I havent got a clue about what to use. I'm aware that there are different ones to use for paintwork, Windows, alloys and interior.

I've got all the tools for the complete prep process and know what I'm going with that. Any advice is much appreciated.

@ScottishS3 - I'm a great believer in either a wax OR a sealent for the bodywork. Some people like to use both but I don't. If you do always wax over seleant

You seem to know enough to do a decent job to me

If your brave enough you could venture onto
