My battery gave up the ghost yesterday, (Halfrauds one:notme:), so I fitted a new Banner. Some Audis need a new battery to be 'registered' via VCDS. Does that apply to the A3 please?

And any comments on Banner batteries?

    No.

Buy varta silver ultra dynamic ZGB577400078 iirc from tps/audi, much better for a3 technology.

if it's an AGM battery (start stop type) then some programming is needed. The 8V definitely has it not sure if the 8P does though:readit:

8P start/stop system does have some battery monitoring fitted, but not entirely sure it has any direct coding, just tell the car it has the start/stop & maybe recup system fitted.

Well, I was going to get a Bosch from my local car spares shop (used it for 30 years), and when I rang for one he said they stopped selling them as they were "Nowt but trouble!" They only stock the Banner, made in Austria and OEM on BMWs and Mercs. Not had a faulty one apparently.

Am i right in saying the Varta you guys mentioned is the E44?

Also I think I seen somewhere that you need to do certain things when changing the battery(like door shut, wheels straight), is this right? or have i just imagined it lol.

Should just be able to remove old, fit new, drive down the road & few turns & any lights should go out.

I ended up buying a Bosch matched to my Car's engine code... didn't want to risk burning out any sensitive electronics with something too Heavy Duty\Powerful. It's still slightly more powerful than the OE item, but not so much that I need to worry! The protective sleeve from the original battery fits it like a glove too, so it's a perfect fit.

    S5005 - AUDI A3 2.0 2009 Battery | Buy Parts By

I remember putting a Heavy Duty Varta in a V6 Mondeo Ghia X that had electric everything, plus an upgraded stereo w\ two power amps! Bit by bit I started getting little electrical glitches - which I believe was caused by the battery over-amping circuits! I got rid in 2010 with glitches intact & I'll not risk it again.

I was looking for the E44 like the one NHN suggests....but they were out of stock where I'd ordered from. Needed it ASAP so opted for the Bosch equivalent (S5) from Euro Car Parts...with some promo code they were running. Ended up about £66. :icon_thumright:

That wouldnt be a problem mate, Varta show it as a battery recommended for the car anyway.

Yea, The Bosch showed as compatible with the CCZA engine (mine), where the Varta wasn't so specific, so opted for this one. They have the same 5 year guarantee & cost about the same, so no harm done. :icon_thumright:
