Brought an a3 2.0 tdi at the weekend for the girlfriend, everything seemed great, high miles but full service history timing belt done etc etc, couple of days on and she's noticed the car is smoking whitey blue smoke at low revs eg first to second and to third, i took the car out and thought maybe it needed a blast, bit of a blow out, but I found it didn't smoke at all under heavy acceleration, only when low revs 1200 - 1800, it's as though when the turbo isn'tworking it bbegins smoking, any ideas thanks very much

I checked coolant Sunday prior to buying the car, I also checked it twice tonight and seems to be at the same level... Could it be oil in the intercooler? The problems is only seen when pulling off in first then changing to second, especially can be seen when letting foot of the accelerator!

Thanks for your replies, do you think continuing to drive and see what happens would be best, or should I take it too the garage?, beginning to think I may have been sold a bad one, any come back vs private seller?

Took the car to sunset Vag in Derby, turns out the fuel filter was fitted incorrectly and damaged, also there is oil in the fuel due to a faulty tandam pump, he's told us to use the current fuel up and stick some v power in and see if it gets better, should we just get the tandem pump replaced? Does this information sound correct? Thanks

Ok so serviced the car Saturday oil, filter, fuel filter, still the same, light blue haze smoke from exhausts especially on the over run low revs 1st n 2nd gear

Took it to another guy who thought it was fuel read ecu no codes found,

Decided use all the fuel up and stick v power in so we have done that and seems possibly slightly better

Removed fuel filter so that I could add forte diesel cleaner, noticed in the excess fuel little tiny black bits would this be oil?

Could I have a fault with tandem pump ?

Please help it's really hard to find someone good at this engine it seems in my area at least

hi your fuel filter will always go black as its a diesel and that what they do .

mine has always done it and always will.

replaceing tandem pump wont stop the filter go black.

keep using a fuel cleaner will help

As above, at idle it should puff a faint haze with the breather pipe off.

If it is the tandem pump it's cheaper than turbo but still about £200 for the part.

mines started doing this last week interesting to hear I think its oil from the breather on the top going back into the turbo its worse after its parked up for 2-3 miles then clears but if I park up and leave for 30 mins jump back in its the same again . and its clouds of smoke if I give it a boot full in 2nd

tdi man I was looking at these along with egr blank :) . and I haven't done anything with mine yet tbh . I thought it was turbo but been told if it was turbo it would be all the time >< so yeah umm . thinking oil catch tank may be a fix as there was some oil in the breather pipe etc . but I may try it with the pipe off and airbox side blocked and the cover side piped into a bottle for a few days see if it cures it

yes but if I was to disconnect the brather to test if it was breathing oil through into the intake it would lead to oil being blown out over my engine bay while driving?

months ago it still has warranty ... I'm thinking either turbo seals or valve seals
