I broke down today, my TDi just died on me. Wont start again now, RAC's guess was fuel pump. Supposedly there is no signal between the pump and the engine. My glow plug light flashes also, although not all the time. If i turn the ignition on then turn it off, the light flashes once avery two times i do this. Please help as ive only had the car a month and im gutted!
    Cheers!

Some has same issue on another site and mine is the same as this although he has no replies:

    1999 V6 2.5 TDI A4 SE - Will not start HELP!
This is my partners car, she was driving to see her parents the other day and the engine just cut out and all the dashboard lights came on. Had the car recovered and am trying to repair. Prior to this failure the car has been running fine uses a little oil but to be expected for a car thats done 128K Symptoms 1) Car turns over with no problems and glow plugs illuminate. 2) Fuel filter is full of diesel 3) There is a slight air bubble in the pipe that runs from the fuel filter to the injectors but this moves when the engine is turned over. 4) Injectors have been loosened and diesel is being pumped out through them. 5) It appears to be a fuel starvation problem. 6) no warning lights of any description on the dashboard. Things checked / replaced so far 1) Diesel in tank - yes 2) Immobiliser light illuminates and then goes off after a few secs - yes 3) Fuel filter replaced - yes new one fitted yesterday 4) Fuel tank fuel pump - replaced with new genuine unit yesterday My mechanic mate and me are now scratching our heads trying to work out what is the problem. ? Where is the OBD port on this model, as we know someone who has VAGCOM testing kit. Any thoughts or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Is there a fuel supply cut-off switch that's supposed to trigger in the event of an accident? I've heard of these going wrong on other cars and triggering out of the blue. Bit of a wild-card I know...

The injection pump is in the v at the front of the engine, the fuel pump is in the rear tank!!

    Just a word of warning!!!

Every time I change the diesel filter on our V6 tdi it's a right barstool to get going again!!!

Fill new filter with fresh diesel, make sure you have a good battery cos your going to need it, If it still wont start crack a few nuts at the injectors and make sure diesels getting there whilst you are turning her over.

Once had to bleed the system with a 5 litre container of diesel above the car!!!

Ouch. On my previous car (a Pug 306) it required a new ECU at a cost of £800. I hope things work out better for you!

    Who says it's ECU failure?
Although not un heard of it's not a common Audi fault!!

Have you tried disconecting the battery for 5/10 mins which should reset the ECU to default settings-Long shot but worth a try!

Right faults i have come up are:

01318 - ECU for Injection Pump J399 defect
00741 - Brake Pedal check not a plausable signal
00523 - Intake Air temp sensor G42 open circuit/short with power
00532 - Supply voltage (b+) signal too low

Now the last three is probably cos the battery has gone dead. My thoughts (and Adam from AMD) are a dodgy earth somewhere. Anyone got any clues? Car just died on me and wont start again. Speakers popped and banged before cutting out. Now the batterys flat.

    HELLLLLLPPPPP!!!

Yep Fuel pumps gone. What happened to mine is the scavange pump in the tank failed, causing the main pump to burn out. So ive replaced the tank pump (£175) and now its the main pump, which ive been quoted £1255 for but recon ones are available im told. Just gotta find a place that does them....

HI buddy, a friend of mine had the same issues with his 306 HDi, when the rear goes, it anniliates the front pump if not caught quickly enough..

Arglye Diesel are pump recon specialists, give them a bell buddy.

01355 232624 they are based in East Kilbride, Scotland.

it will most likely be on an exchange basis, for your old pump.

    hope this helps.:sm4:

Aghh thats a shame buddy, but i understand that constant problems, eventually take their toll on an owners mental state towards the car....

You would have probably got a pump at half the price from them...
