    Hi all.
Just recently finished all the bodywork to my S3 and ended up being a full repaint! Wasn't busy at work so thought why not! Many late nights and lunch hours but its finally looking how I wanted it to when I got it last year, all panels are now straight and shiny black complimented by dark gunmetal alloys and lower bumper / door trims in same gunmetal colour but with matt clearcoat. Even done the chrome grill surround to try and be different.
Gonna give it a few hours of waxing at the weekend and will get some pics up for you all to see.
I am at long last a happy chappy!

have been wanting a remap for a while but unsure which one to go for? Any ideas?
I had my 2002 a4 1.8T revo'd and was very happy with the improvement but then changed to a twin turbo s4 and didnt really feel the need to fiddle with that lol
have heard that amd do a decent remap also was just wondering what the differences were between amd and revo performance wise

Feels great having a new spray job doesn't it... it's like a new car. I was well chuffed when I had my Golf 1.8T sprayed in the R32 Deep Blue Pearl, worth every penny!

How much does it cost to get you car resprayed?
Does it cost more to spray it a different colour?
I'm thinking Sprint Blue that the 8P's come with.

A full colour change does cost considerably more as you need to do all the shuts etc which involves taking a lot more of the car to bits to do it properly.
A full respray in the original colour can be anything from £2000 - £3000 for a proper job as the paint isn't cheap at around £100 per litre and clearcoat around the same, then lots of labour hours and it all adds up.
Luckily im a paint sprayer by trade so mine cost me nothing as I work for a Land Rover main dealer bodyshop and got all the paint and materials for free and all it took was my evenings and lunch hours and weekends to slowly get it done, but was never going to be a rush job. Was originally thinking about a complete colour change to Nogaro Blue but in the end am glad I stayed with Brilliant Black as when its all waxed and shiny it really looks brand new.

I'm coming to you for the rest of my paint work then... at least you take pride in your work unlike the 'Audi approved' outfit doing mine at the moment....

In my opinion mate if you're going to do a job then it may as well be done properly. Yes it may take a lot longer than getting it "lashed up" but the end result is always 100 times better. I have found that a lot of people just don't spend the time and effort as its not their car but I always like to treat every car like my own, so if im happy then they should be too. Hate the thought of any Audi not being looked after lol plus after 11 years of painting Range Rovers for a living im pretty used to being fussy about details as showroom lighting picks up everything lol

Living on a partial building site is starting to bug me as it's covering my new paint with thick mud and sand! I wasn't after the rally effect lol

I really don't understand some people... they painted the roof, A pillars and over etc and lacquered both rear panels (was in for the infamous rain channel rust bubbles) but they masked around the sodding aerial leaving it a complete state underneath... they even removed it after to mop it over!!! then couldn't see what the problem was as (in their words) 'we didn't paint that bit'...

...they even lacquered over some surface rust that was under the rear window seal without cleaning it off first and of course its now visible as the seal is in a slightly different place...

totally agree with you, how much effort would it have been to release the aerial and paint the roof properly? Probably took them longer to mess about masking it up and then all the time trying to hide their paint edge! Unfortunately nowadays insurance companies are refusing to pay to have certain items of trim and even windows removed if the panel is only a paint blend and instructing the bodyshop to mask them up. At our place if we have a job and the insurer asks us to do just that we tend to just remove them and do it properly anyway. In all honesty we are then doing that part of the repair for nothing but in our eyes if we end up reworking the job because of it then its a waste of money and its us that the customer will be screwing at and not the insurer so we try to keep them happy and therefore maintain a solid reputation. Happy customers usually means repeat work in our eyes

Anyway, just took the last coat of wax off the S3 before the sun went down so hopefully it stays dry tonight and I will go out in the morning and get some pics to put on here.

thinking of changing the aerial to a sharkfin type but have heard that the one off the newer models is not a straight swap and involves some wiring. Anyone know if there are any out there with the same wiring connections etc

cheers mate believe me it didn't look like that when i got it hence only paying 5800 for a 2001 model with 60k on the clock lol dealer had it up for 6850 originally but even he knew it needed some tlc and in his words "mate I just need it gone as its not the sort of thing I sell but had to take it as a PX" looking around at the RS4, various Lambo's, 911's etc. Even got him to give it a service, front discs and pads and 6 months MOT!

You blacked out the alloys too ! Personally a big no no for me. I think there is just too much black going on and it just seems it is only one dark tinted window away from being completely invisible in the dark and possibly quite 'pimpish' during the day.

What does makes your car stand out is the gorgeous very shiny black paintwork, but personally I believe it can stand out even more with some nice standard 18" and chrome mirrors to set it off nicely and maybe a matching chrome roof aerial. Then the car will sparkle day or night !

.......But then again that's my own personal 'ageing' view on it.

BMW A22 Sparkling Graphite mate. Was going to do them Daytona Grey but had some of this left over from a previous job. May change them to a semi matt finish which will make them look a bit lighter
