is your current car your best car so far?
do you all mod or tweek your cars to perfection?

im board at work.....again /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/snore.gif and thought i'd share a pic or two of my previous cars (bare in mind im 21 so there probably nothing special compared to other ppl on this forum)

1st car
Honda CRX Mk2 1.6 16v 130bhp
resprayed in honda millano red (inc new window seals, new front and rear lights, new trim all round, new sunroof seals...its the little bits that make the big difference)
league 037 16" alloys with toyo t1-s 205/45/16
jamex sports spring and shocks
scorpion ss exhaust

2nd car
VW Corrado VR6 2.9 v6 199bhp

before

then...
koni springs and shocks
new bbs solitude alloys (from the vr6 storm) with micheline pilot sport 205/50/15
schrick vgi manifold
VT front engine mount
respray in original classic green with blue pearl effect
milltek exhaust
kamie eyebrow
gofl vr6 288mm front brakes

now onto the 3rd car...audi s3 the fun is begining again

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/beerchug.gif

Nice cars for your age matey. A friend of mine has a CRX, it's a right little pocket rocket!

The VR6 looks sweet. I have seen you posting on the carrado forums too. Cheers for linking the pics on the S3 for sale topic in the forums there /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Those cars are two models i always wanted but never got round to owning one.

I looked for a CRX 1.6 VTEC - ended up with a newer CIvic Vti a the time doh!

And then looked for Corrado VR6 Storm - ended up with a newer Golf Gti T. doh again!
Nice cars! I also had the chance of a beautiful Lancia Delta Intergrale EVO II but was terrified of residuals - what a donut!

hmmm crx just ended my ownaship of the crx after 9 years /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif loved it to bits, got to say the S3 is great but still miss the go-cart crx.

Love the Corrado, looks great.

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/yes.gifNever been a fan of jap cars myself, but looks nice too.

thanks.

the crx was great. ha it for 2 years.. handled great due to the independant double wishbone suspension all round and nice wide wheels and tyres. engine was a little gem revving to about 7k although you had to use all 7k which got a little annoying at times.

corrado was a good follow on car. amazing handling and that engine! the schrick suited it well putting down the torque about 1000rpm sooner than standard...not built anywhere near as good as the crx though... small rattles and squeeks finaly drove me to sell it a year after buying it... but it was still fun and i can still say i owned one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

s3.... handling a little soft compared to the previous 2 cars but i will sort it out no worry... and i dont need to bother respraying this one as the paint is fine

ta

Nice choice of cars! CRX looks mint. How much were you paying for insurance on the cars being young and what do you pay on the s3?

My a3 isn't the best handling or quickest car i have owned but its by far the most refined and luxurious.

So far my list of cars from passing my test is :

*Saxo 1.1 (standard) crashed

*Saxo 1.1 (standard) crashed

*Vauxhall Nova SR (few tweeks) gave to the missus

*Renault Clio DCi (bought for long journeys to work) p/x for sportka

*Vauxhall Nova SR (1300, full rebuild, respray in BMW Dakar Yellow)

*Vauxhall Nova (1600 16v, full rebuild) sold to build ka

*Ford Ka (1600 turbo conversion, pretty much everything race/fast road spec) - someone ran into me - stripped it

*SportKa SE (part ex'd for the audi)

*Audi A3 (will eventually go for a boxster s)

Simon Phew! at least u saw the light mate and got urself a real car in the end!

no offence intended but cant stand novas/saxos/corsas think they r the equivalent of coke cans on wheels or more tango cans with the paint jobs some people unleash on thier wagons.

Jedi- love the carrado mate-must have been a sad day when u at to let her go!

my previous cars, in no particular order :-
datsun 120y gratis
ford escort mk1
alfasud
ford escort mk3
maestro van
sherpa van
bmw 316
peugeot 305d
morris minor pick-up
audi gt coupe
ford sierra x3
rover 820
mg metro
fiat argenta gratis
lancia delta
volvo estate 240 IIRC
austin montego
bmw 528
vauxhall astra van d
seat ibiza gratis
vw golf
audi coupe quattro

the 2 audi`s are the only cars i have saved to buy and gone out intending to buy, all the others were either free or very cheap and handy at the time, and yes, most of them were `sheds` /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/blush.gif

Strider. The saxos were just first cars. Free insurance and reliable

The novas i rebuilt were stormers. Really put alot of effort into them. Same with the Ka. You dont get many 180bhp Ka's running round with 100 of nos on top. Shame the gypsy pillock ran into me before the feature /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

I had a 16v Corrado a few years ago...loved it, but it was definitely a friday afternooner...had loads of probs.

Prior to the S3 had a Golf Mk3 VR6, about the same power as the Corrado VR6 (mine was Amd'd to 200 bhp), but I have to say a much better drive than the S3.

Still wouldn't part with the S3 as the turbo more than makes up for, well, everything really /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

my list of cars goes

nova 1.0 which i put a 1.2 in
corsa sri 8v

age 19: crx grp 12 = £1000 TPFT
age 20: corrado grp 18 = £1200 FC
age 21: s3 grp 17 = £700 FC

list of my cars, in some kind of order at least I'll try to remember
*First car was a Java Green mini 1000 with a 1275GT lump in it - very nice

*Lancia Delta HF turbo
*Corsa (company car)
*Seat Ibiza (company car)

*Porsche 911T from the classic year of 1973 (back to my small bumper again) lovely just to delicate
*picking up the imola S3 tomorrow and from the reading on this forum I am hopeful I have found my keeper

not quite as extensive a list.

VW Polo 1.9 D
Audi A3 1.8T Sport

/ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif

wow those insurance premiums!

x reg mk1 Golf 1100cc
C reg Mk2 Golf 1300cc
E reg 318 BMW 1800cc
R reg A3 1800cc NA

Was going to go for another BMW E36 but far too common and always prefered hatches so I went for the A3. The MK1 Golf was more fun and was faster than the MK2 Golf. The BMW was scary in the wet and a joke on the snow or ice.

next car? A A3 turbo I guess....

oh, and I've never paid more than £440 comp for insurance! Age really helps!

My list goes:

Saxo VTR
...modded to hell, put a VTS lump in it after 2 years owning it - little rocket that car.

Ibiza Cupra
Chipped, suspension etc.. only had it 9 months, nice enough car but never really got under my skin.

Fiat Coupe 20VT Plus
Fantastic car! Goregous 5 pot turbo...ran hybrid turbo, chip, coilovers etc... ~280BHP, would tear the S3 a new one 80+ (in a straight line /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif )..maint costs were a bit scary though

S3 .. said I wouldn't mod this one /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Adam

lots of cars,interesting ones are mk1 golf gti's and mk2 gti's,few mr2's including a 300bhp turbo version.

mini 1000cc mayfair (silver) dropped a 1293 lump in it and some wella 10x6 wheels.
rover vitesse /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/frown.gif
89 crx (owned for 9 years it was that good)

Here, here...

My Nova was tested and featured in CCC mag and rated as the best of it's type they'd tested...no silly big engines that give terminal understeer...just a well sorted 1.6 8v Blydenstein motor on twin 40 Webers making nearly 140BHP, c/r gearbox, clutch & plate LSD, decent brakes and a sorted chassis..in a car weighing 875kgs.
No silly graphics here...nor fibreglass, bodykits, neons etc...just a fantastic handling car.

It was still the fastest point to point car I'd owned until recently...although some of that may have been the fearless driving style of a early 20s driver!

Of their time, Nova SRs were great little cars...

Yes my new car will doubtless be the best so far!

I tend to tweak to perfection rather than get carried away.

My main cars have gone:

1995 Rover 115SD (the shame of it)
1991 Golf Mk2 1.8GL
1993 Golf Mk3 2.0GTI
1992 Golf Mk2 1.8GLi (Jap-spec)
1992 Golf Mk2 2.0GTI 16v (US-spec)
1990 Golf Mk2 1.8GTI 16v
1992 Golf Mk2 1.8GTI 16v
2001 A3 quattro T Sport.
2002 S3 225.

Along the way I've also had a 1992 Scirocco GT2 and a 1984 Golf Mk2 1.8GTI as second cars.

@Ess Three, I had the overweight engine in the front ! 2.0 16v turbo, Courtenay chip, Quaife ATB, Man shafts, usual suspension tweeks etc.
TBH didn't suffer from bad understeer though. Must have been the diff and the Pilot Sports.
Was a lurid shade of Pink though. No fibreglass though !
Bill Blydenstein. Now theres an engineer who made ****** good NA Vauxhall engines.
Used to know brothers from Scotland with a QED throttle bodied Nova. Alan and Alfie Shepherd. Know them ?

Chris.

Give over! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
Every Nova with a big engine has terminal understeer next to a light nosed 1.4 or 1.6!

Have a word with yourself Chris... /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Even with a diff those things understeer...or they did when mixed with my driving style...which could be the key, I guess.

TBH, I'm not convinced about the Quaiffe diff...I run one in my Blydenstein'd Golf GTI...and I'm not as happy about it's action as I was the old ZF clutch and plate LSD in the Nova...
For the VR6 i'm going back to clutch and plate...probably Gemini (Ricardo)

Not just Vauxhall...
I'm still in contact with Bill...he did a special ABF head for my Golf GTI...and did a very special one-off 'ultimate' VR6 head for an engine I'm building (3mm bigger inlets, 2mm bigger exhausts)...he also tweaked my Schrick VSR inlet manifold.

The man is a legend...I've never seen another tuner get so much torque from NA headwork...he's also one of the few genuine gentlemen left in the tuning game.

He built me a 1.6 8v small block Vauxhall engine...my 1.4 block clearanced for GTE crank, GTE crank, pistons, rods, Astra 1.6 CDI head (like the Nova GTE head but without the exhaust hot-spots) modified to B Pack + spec (big inlets and exhausts), standard GTE cam, modified 1.3SR dizzy (modified advance curves, and no vacuum advance module), twin 40 webbers, lightened SR flywheel modified to take a GTE clutch, fully lightened and balanced...etc...

It used to make 135-140 BHP all day long...over 130 lb-ft torque...rev to 7300 in top (a genuine 134 MPH...in a Nova!!)
What a peach of an engine...stunning!

Let's not forget this was a 1596cc 8v engine on carbs...and fairly standard ignition!

[/ QUOTE ]

Nah...'fraid not.
Where were they from?

I was in the ADMC at the time (Aberdeen and District motor Club) and tended to do northern events plus national trackdays...
Maybe they were from further south...

Ah the old big block debate for Novas. To be honest i have never liked them. To big, to heavy and no point. I aint keen on the 8v engines ether mind you. c16xe wins hands down every time for me. My fave engine by far. 109bhp running 15.7standing quarter. It would have most 2.0 valvers to about 60 too.

Think it was probably different driving styles. Diff was ok once you got used to it. Learned to adjust to suit its traits.
Think the brothers were from Lanark.

Chris.

Some fairly impressive lists on here and Nova's were the best when you were young, the number of times I crashed or bumped mine and had the panels off beating them back into shape made it the sensible choice. Started with;

Nova 1.4SR
Corsa GSi

Company Cars;
Rover 214i
Vauxhall Astra 1.6 LS
Ford Mondeo (Friday Afternoon Car)
Hyundai Lantra (punishment for crashing Mondeo)
Vauxhall Vectra 1.6 LS
Volvo 850R
Vauxhall Vectra Supertouring (had three weeks, banned from driving & lost job...oops!)

Before getting Licence back got Audi A3 1.8T Quattro
Vauxhall Astra 2.2 SRi
Audi S3 225
Audi S4 V8

Probably won't buy anything but Audi again, just so damm good...... apart from a Gallardo!

I currently run have three cars.

An audi 225 tt-standard

Golf Rallye- G60 binned in favour of a 2.9 vr6 engine with a vortec supercharger using syncro golf drivetrain with some help from a VW Motorsport gearbox.

And finally my university daily driver- Polo G40 which is running about 150bhp.

The Polo is the most fun to drive and a real menace on the streets. The other day I battered a clio sport doing over 130mph (private road :) )
Not bad for a 1.3 hey!? The best thing about it is the "polo cl" badge I have on the back. I always make sure its firmly in view for the car behind so they can read it before its Blast off!!!!!!!
