This is my other half’s Audi A3
Ive always like the Audi especially the last few years , I think it’s the aggressive front which has a lot of character and is quite mean looking, so when she opted to chop the Compact in I was quite chuffed, being able to get my mits on one that’s on the door step is just what I wanted….bearing in mind its not my car…lol.

With 3 kids (and two dogs) and the car being a daily driver, we had to keep in perspective what could actually be done to it as an ongoing project.

With this is mind we had a chin wag about what she wanted and then made a start.

This is not the actual car as we did take any before pictures.
I think black is the best colour when cleaned and polished, just like a mirror!

Like most interiors...bland!we made sure it was cloth, no need to pay extra for leather ;)
She was a fan of the wood effect which has never been my cup of tea but i knew this would change as things progressed.

The first job was a set of wheels.
After remembering its not mine! Sarah narrowed it down to two sets, the one she has now and another set with look quite like BBS LM’s. After much thought she opted for these and TBH they work very well with the car, The LM type were dropped because the polished lip with black middles may see a little kerbing and these are far easier to rectify if that ever happened, she did want to worry about searching for a place local to sort them out. There are centre caps, just not it the pictures.
Cannot remember the name of them at the moment but there 19”

In standard form, the suspension was quite high so this also had to be sorted, not forgetting its a daily family car so a modest drop of 35mm rear and 15-20 front would be enough
    [IMG]

Ill add pictures of it settled when i get them off the camera...just need to find it!

    FOUND IT!!
Although its not slammed, its alot better than the 4x4 stance before.

After much thought about the interior colour she decided on something darker which would still draw your attention due to the black exterior.

The Colour was taken from this car!

    Individual Caramel Merino Nappa..Yum Yum.
The leather is thicker than other Nappa leathers and also has a heavy grain, but its still silky soft
    [IMG]

The first part to get leathered were the armrest and gaiter+gearknob, shortly followed by the console supports.
I did see an Audi at a resent dub show with the same'ish colour interior with Bentley wheels, looked really nice!.

Top stitching along the top made a difference from an otherwise bland part

I could see that the wood effect would have to go after adding this colour leather, sarah confirm this when the door cards were leathered.
I couldn't believe the hassle it took to get the rear door cards out!!, i literally had to strip the rear of the car just to get them out!!

Got to say though...after putting them back in....well worth the hassle!

    Pictures to follow :D

Not had to wait to long to get these up, only thing is i cannot find the rear ones, which when you see them together looks even better.
So for now, just the fronts
You don't need a stitch line in the front door cards but i though it would look better to have one, adds a bit more colour and breaks up a plain area.
With the leather being 1.6-1.8mm instead of the usual 1-1.2mm total tolerances was a little tight, the rear door card forearm rest was a pain in the a$$ to get back in...but it all done
The top section had to be done, just waiting to be leathered and the theme follows through to the rear door cards.
The door pockets didn't escape...breaks up another dark area. :D with the door handle/forearm rest done it all goes together quite well....well chuffed :D

see what i mean about the wood effect now....we (she/sarah) is currently looking to change it to aluminum.

    Door card Before
    [IMG]

    Door Cards After

Rear door card pictures to follow....now were are they

    :) Here we are

Again, the hassle getting them out.

    Phewww at last...on there own
    [IMG]

A line of stitching was added to the rear doorcard as well, didnt need it, just breaks it up.

With the boot put back together and all the bits in...the "Worth the Hassle Picture" the rear speaker grills were a pan to get back in due to the thickness so a little modding was needed.

When looking from the outside now, you can see the Caramel on the top of the door cards as it butts up to the black exterior which i think looks really nice.

    cheers!
Leather work is done by my fair hands.
Always wanted to have a bash at the interior of the Audi so when Sarah picked one up i was like a kid in a candy shop...ill be doing bits and bobs when i have time as its her daily runner.

Im thinking steering wheel and some other parts of the under dash are next...just need to get the car for long enough!

Dantdi..no mate, origional all the way, suppose it would have been easier at 1-1.2mm instead of the standard 1.8mm for this leather. At least it lets me know i have plenty of room (.6-.8mm)if i used none merino leather.
There will always be areas that i could be helpful in and im yet to come across it in the A3...im sure i will though!

lol...there are plans to remove the wood as we think it clashes with this colour leather.
Just need to find the part numbers needed and a price.Would also liked to have lowered it more, but for now it will have to stay as it is.

There was a carbon fibre trim set on Ebay last time I looked. It's about the same price you would pay from a dealer for piano black or alu

Hmmmm, there is a black set on there(ashtray cover missing)...4 days to go though, just think what would be the best one to go for
    Black
    Aluminum
    Carbon
or Another leather colour...might be a bit tight for space though
    What you you recon????

Just added a poll and if you have any variations e.g. Carbon cloth (like thats in the BMW).

Can someone throw a bit of light on this for me.
Ive been looking around at the single grill and To be honest it looks better that the double so im thinking of doing this.
Now he bumper im looking to change it to it basically the same as whats on there now, just that its a single. I did come across someone who had the same question as me but i cannot seam to find it again!..i think the fog lights etc will all swap over...but its just the bonnet...will this need changing. The car is 04 8P which i know is different for the L, if i do need to change it what year was the next face lift..or year i need to get the bonnet from.
Again...it looks the same as the one she has now but the single grill...the fog light housing all looks the same.

You will need a bonnet from 05 onwards your best best bet is to go dealer as they are very rare to come by and some breakers are charging more than the stealers the single grill you can get off ebay easy enough along with the bumper and yes the fog grills and lights should fit easily enough as i have recently done mine :icon_thumright:

But becareful when you see bonnets advertised as being off of an "05" A3 though.
I've seen some and they are not the facelift type needed, just exactly the same as the prefacelift bonnets.

cheers for the reply...bumper 05 onwards it is then, best to make sure, as aythreee says ive seen a few advertised from 03-05 and thats why i posted the question.Ive got a bumper complete...£30, black as well, so that will be getting blown over and just need to swap the fog lights+ fitting, ill contact the local tomorrw and see what price there charging.
Also...not sure if its the same with Audi, but BMW's price for parts can vary depending on your location, if i went to the local dealer for a BM part were i live then it would be cheaper to drive 15 mins down the road to another dealer and ill get it cheaper...something to do with the labour rate?

Well done on the interior, personaly I'd avoid the piano trim as it scratches quite easily on wedding bands, wrist watches etc etc, I hate the wood finish as well, took ages to find a Bora that didnt have them but its more about personal taste i guess...

Nope (with respect) you're not alone. Whilst the exterior looks good and full of potential, I'm not keen on the interior. Whenever I look at the interior pictures - jaffa cakes spring to mind.

Lots of work gone into it mate but not my cup of tea.. with or without jaffa cakes.

I think the only way it could maybe work is if the whole interior was done, including seats. But even then I'm not sure.
And with the padded'ness of the leather I think you need to be careful it doesn't end up looking like a soft toy.

    e.g......

The colour choice came down to this one because of the amount of use with the kids so something like champagne with would have looked better just wouldn't have lasted.
    .
Red and black re ruled out as you can get then interiors as standard, did think about black though, with a different colour top stitch.

I does have the more padded look due to the type of grain and Nappa smooth could have been an option but not in this colour, not to sure about it looking like a soft toy though.

Piano black does look nice but i think it will go better with a lighter interior as it would really stand out, the same with Carbon. Any of them two with a light interior will look really nice, just think this interior may be to dark...the poles look at Aluminum which i think is the better option
Cheers for the info on the bonnet ill contact Benskins when i sort the second car out so she still has wheels for work

oh!and do you know what the buttons are on the side of the door, looky at the picture with the drivers door open, there on the side. I was asked this yesterday and haven got a clue.

Just to clear up this 03/05 bit, make sure you get a bonnet from an 05 car and not just an 05 registered 04 car. There are lots of 05 registered twin grill cars about.

The buttons on the door side..

top one deactivates the interior movement alarm.....when you lock the car and leave the dog in.
The other de activates the tilt alarm ( tow away) so if you break down you can alarm the car and still tow it away.
