Just had my MOT done and my wallets feeling a lot lighter. Could someone look over the receipt and make sure it's all correct. Didn't think a gaitor cost that much![IMG]

Seems like a LOT of money to me for two gaiters and a wheel bearing

not just a lot of money, but I think that's humongous amount.

Well why don't you price the parts up at gsf and see? You do get a fair mark up on parts, as this is what covers their overheads

Presumably because one side was already stripped to do the wheel bearing.... You can see in pencil the cost of the gaiter above the main price.

Bearing is 30-40quid. gaiters are circa £15 each

Funny thing is they've clearly included labour in the "replace..." bits as evidenced by the difference in cost between the two sides, then also added another 60odd quid of labour at the bottom....

As i said above, the gaiter price is listed above the price. £18.72 on both.

The price difference is surely because they're stripped one side already to do the bearing, so less work to do the gaiter on that side.

Overall though the money they've charged is way OTT for the work done IMO.

But if they have added the labour into the parts prices, which it appears they have, why would they add extra labour at the bottom?

Looks like they're grouping labour in the with the parts, maybe a bit on the pricey side but ... at my local VAG Specialist ...

    to do a front wheel bearing I was quoted (& paid) 1.5hrs labour @ £82.50 + £44 for the part + VAT

I was also quoted 1.5hrs @ £82.50 + £21.50 for the part to do an O/S/F outer CV boot.

lol I was given a quote of half an hour's labour to replace a number plate and headlight bulb.

If I was them even though they have sort of "done" you I would've taken off the MOT or at least make it £35, just to sort of keep you happy.

Although you may not be able to do anything about the prices now since you've paid for it.

"Why is one gaitor £75 and the other £38?"
"Sorry, that should be £75 each"

Labour seems cheap, parts seem expensive, though it's probably worth getting a breakdown of costs before getting the work done next time.

I had one done on an mot two years ago and it was 15 quid for it,it was a bugger to fit,I know this because mine split two months later so I went back and they replaced it whilst I waited.

Its a bit of an upgrade to 38 and 75 then labour on top, they must have meant including labour.

Would seem like a classic 'MOT job' - guess business was thin on the ground that day but they will no doubt try and give you plausible reason as these types always do ;)
