More problems & more money no doubt! Squeal and vibration sound now present on idle.

My car now has developed another 2 problems,

No1 - When the car idles there is a loud vibration type sound which can be heard in the cabin, can clearly here it outside the car and under the bonnet.. The noise goes away when i drive it but returns when idling again, any ideas?

No2 - When it's ticking over there is now a squeal type sound, which isn't constant.. it's a squeal which sounds like it's in revolution with something?

It wasn't long ago that the Auxiliary belt and tensioners were changed along with the cam belt too.

Patience is just about run out, it's cost me a fortune in the last month!

Sorry if the description is vague but this is all i know.

Sounds like the new belt might be slipping. Could the tensioner have worked loose somehow ? Squeal is consistent with a slack belt noise when the alternator / a/c unit under load and metallic sound could be loose tensioner. Just a thought as it's a new belt. I should take it back to whoever changed the belt.

Hi mate

Turn the engine on and let it Idle, spray all the moving belts that you can see with WD40 (watch out for it flicking off) it will stop the squeal and you should work out which is slightly loose/or dry,or brittle Give it a few weeks if the noise dosent come back it was just dry.

Pully belts stretch over time use the WD40 1st before going back to the guy who fitted the belt as this is what he will do but also charge you for the privalige.

just one more question for you mate what revs is your tick over showing when you get the vibration on idle?

Revs are at 800rpm on tick over Gaz.

I have been to see my local VAG specialist.. he assures me that its the Auxiliary belt thats shafted and results in the car sounding like a bag of spanners, there is a new tensioner on the car but it would appear the old belt wasn't replaced along with the tensioner.

Getting fixed Saturday morning.

Is a Auxiliary belt and Alternator belt the same? May seem a stupid question, lol sorry!
