Hi,

I have recently retrofitted an RNS-E in my 55 A4 DTM and am very impressed at how well it went and the performance of the unit. Having bought VCDS i noticed the following fault code:

ddress 56: Radio Labels: 8E0-035-192-RNSE.lbl
Part No SW: 8E0 035 192 T HW: 8E0 035 192 T
Component: RNS-E HIGH EU H80 X---
Revision: 20S Serial number: AUZBZ7J8721554
Coding: 0301115
Shop #: WSC 43567 133 80223
VCID: 356B16425FB4CDB0C2A
1 Fault Found:
02454 - Microphone Unit (in Front Roof Module) (R164)
011 - Open Circuit
Freeze Frame:
Fault Status: 01101011
Fault Priority: 5
Fault Frequency: 75
Reset counter: 104
Time Indication: 0
Date: 2012.12.14
Time: 10:25:16

I dont remember seeing any notes in the how 2's that would deal with this item as i guess its looking for a microphone thats not fitted to my car. I'm also thinking that i either install the microphone or put some form of jumper in (unles i can turn the feature off in VCDS?

So any ideas on how to get rid of the code? what have others done?

Have searched a few threads i also get the impression that my RNS-E may have been modified due to the H80 X--- tag. i tried to downgrade the software version to re-install off of the 2010 disc that came with the unit. however with the disc in it doesnt autorun and i cannot find an update option on the menu's. Am i right in my assumptions above and any ideas on how to get back to version 650?

Ok, check in sound settings, does it have one for SDS if so then this is why, also it beens hacked anyway as it shows software as X, it should show 0650 or 0660 for sds hacked, so unless you want sds, then select channel 97 set to downgrade setting & put an 07 dvd in & let it downgrade, may do 2 restarts so let it do its thing for 10 minutes, then check software in car menu again, then fit 2010 dvd in to upgrade again to 0650.

thanks

will look into borrowing / buying the 2007 version - I notice that there are different DVD types for the RNS-E:

DVD MMI
CD MMI
RNS-E
3G MMI

does it matter which one i get?

Am i right in thinking that the microphone is for the SDS - so software change = no more fault code? :)

If it has sds volume settings in the sound menu's, then yes this is the reason.

Just rolled back to 2007 then updated to 2010 - now shows 650 as the software version and no more microphone fault :)

many thanks
