Mercedes Benz World - My date with an E63 AMG...

I went along to Mercedes Benz World in Brooklands yesterday with my cousin. He's got a CLK and was given a Track Day gift for his birthday, so he invited me along (I had to pay though)...

First we walked through the museum/showroom with over 100 old and current cars in the range.

Then it was time for the Track session. This was the best bit - the track experience where you can pick a car and test it around the track - dry bits, wet bits, smooth bits, rough bits...

We chose to boot an E63 AMG around and boy was it a joy to drive. You wouldn't think it was a near 2 tonne monster in your hands from its responsiveness and sheer speed and braking.

Once we'd finished the session (£100 for 60 minutes), we could feel the heat radiating off the brakes - we gave them a mightly workout...

Just to clarify - the 'showroom' bit is free!

It's only the Track Experience which you need to pay for. We paid £57 per person for a 30 minute session each (with 30 minutes in the back seat while your mate drives). We had two slots, so in total I paid £115 for an hours worth of driving and an hours worth of back seat observing...

Entry to the Brooklands Museum next door is £7.50 and the Concorde tour £4ish on top.
