Thought it would be interesting to see what people used to drive before their A3/S3 purchase. Pics would be nice too. I'll start the ball rolling........

Prior to my A3, I had a J-reg Mk2 Golf GTI 16v 5dr. Metallic black with black leather and BBS RM splits. I adored it but it was eventually time for a new car as the Golf didn't have aircon and last summer was not kind to people sitting on black leather in unairconditioned black cars!.

Really regret selling it though which is why I bought my current old GTI!

think I have the shortest list, with a big jump...

:) lot more fun with the S3 just wish it was a reliable as I thought it would have been... I've just had another quote from Audi with the 60k service for another £600 of work that needs doing!

I know, I know ... Was costing me a packet, and the girlfriend (now wife) thought it was too showy. She didn't get the whole 911 'respect' thing.

I'm hoping the S3 (with a bit of tweaking here and there) can give me the exciting drive and keep the wife sweet (she loves the S3).

The Beetle was by far the coolest car i have ever, and will ever expect to own. Will post a picture tomorrow. I think even if I had a huge pot of money I would struggle to by a car that I would love more than I did that one. Bought it when I was 16 and spent a year restoring and tuning it. How many of you have owned a car tuned enough for the needle to leave the speedo and end up pointing straight down through your indicator warning light. (Admittedly it only had 90mph on the speedo /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/angel.gif)
 
As promised here's a before and after pic of my beetle. Can only apologise for the [censored] quality of the pic. Don't have a scanner so it was digital pic of an old snap. Had the bug slammed on the deck, with a full tank of fuel and passengers the bottom of the torsion bar suspension would hit cats-eyes! Suspension was height adjustable though so could tweak it to suit.
