So i'v been looking on Ebay for a set of chrome S3 style mirror caps. I came across a few sellers selling caps that you glue on to your existing caps but I thought they looked a bit to cheap and didn't look OEM enough for me. I also didn't like the idea of the caps not sitting flush with the rest of the mirror housing. So I decided to take matters into my own hands and make a set myself.

Ordered new mirror housings of Ebay for £30 for the pair.

Once I took them out the box I realised the seller sent two passenger side housings, so currently waiting for him to send the drivers side.

So I thought I may aswell crack on with one of the housings. Took my time on choosing the spray paint to use on the housing as I knew most chrome spray paints actually turn out to be a more silvery colour than chrome. After reading good reviews I grabbed a few cans of Rust-Oleum chrome spray paint from B&Q.

Hung the housing on a metal hanger to get good coverage.

Very happy with the finished product. :arco:

Much rather do this than pay the best part of £100 just for some mirror caps!
Think they look alright to be honest mate!

Hope the lacquer does not react with the spry paint.

Depending on your car's colour? I think they look nice. I lately saw a black S3 with satin/Matt grille, Audi rings and mirrors, looked dope.

You know what, with some lacquer on they will look fairly authentic. I find the S3 mirrors have an unusual finish, not brushed, almost just blasted, and what you've done looks very similar.
Plus if they get nicked you get the satisfaction of knowing the mutant that did it has stitched himself up!

I've used chrome paint in my engine bay on old cars i've had, if you laquer it it will react and turn a dull grey colour. If you wipe it the chrome effect will come off and turn a dull grey colour. If it gets wet it will turn a dull grey colour. Gave up using it.
