Evening all, I had my trusty A4 serviced for the first time since i've owned it (3 months) last week, all was good apart from low oil pressure and a split in the offside outer cv boot.
The chap who carried out the service is an audi specialist and told me the low oil pressure is down to a blocked oil pick up pipe, unfortunaly he was too busy to do it so i've got it booked in on monday with a mechanic friend of mine. My mate asked me to get the parts and take them round with the car....
What parts do i need for this? Obviously need the pick up pipe itself, but as he needs to drop the sump do i need a sump gasket or sealer and new bolts?? All parts will be main dealer parts too wont they??
Any help will be appreciated... Ta very much:thumbsup:

you wont need a new pickup pipe, the old one will just need a thorough cleaning.

you will need a sump gasket but i cant think of anything else. Bolts should all be reusable. The gasket should be available from your local factors.

Also the fresh oil that was put in at the service is all going to have to come back out again, and i wouldnt be putting it back in. Get some fresh 5w40 synth from the factors when your getting the gasket. I'd also recommend more frequent oil changes to help flush out the sludge that will be all thru the engine from its previous lack of oil changes. I change mine every 5k, and its usually black after that time.

Personally when the sump is off i would stick a new pump in for the cost of £70 ish when its apart. They come with new pick up pipes anyway, other wise aragorn is spot on with what he says i change mine between 5 and 6 k too, not worth the risks IMO

As suggested above the oil strainer is blocked, you should remove the sump and clean the strainer and the pick up pipe.

The job is a few hours, you will need to lower the front subframe. You will need rotate the flywheel to line up to remove the bolts in the rear of the sump. The sump does not have a gasket just some silcone gasket available from you dealer for about £13.

You may be lucky and have not damaged your turbo bearings.

Thanks for all the replies everyone, would it be likely the turbo bearings have gone then? there is a strange noise coming from the engine sometimes... the bloke who serviced it said it could be the water pump bearings?? cant describe how it sounds but now i'm thinking it could be the turbo bearings??? HELP!!

You may notice some smoke on idle, any interuption to turbo oil feed does not do the bearing much good. Only in bad wear you will get a shreeking from the turbo as the blades catch on the inside of the housings.
The water pump is normally silent, the viscous fan bearings fail and can be checked simply, cheap to replace.

Its not a shrieking noise..sounds like its coming from the front...near the rad. Its sort of like a hollow sound, not loud or high pitched and its not a constant sound either. Sometimes i wish i was a mechanic rather than a panel beater!
    Thanks again chaps
