I have a 1996 1.8t sport i seem to be losing water but the engine bay is dry no sign of leak or head gasket failure any ideas would be a massive help.

Give the following a good check over should be noticeable by a pink crusty antifreeze residue saying theres antifreeze in if youve just been topping up with water.

Water pump, cylinder head coolant housing and thermostat outlet.

ok thanks great help

mine did this and it was the black plastic coolant elbow on the rear of the cylinder head. Hairline crack along the bottom which only leaks under pressure. Fairly common failure.

On mine there was a crack in the bottom of the res that you could only see if it was removed.New tank was £12
