Looooong brake pedal travel

    Evening troops,

    I've recently noticed that my brakes aren't what they used to be. The pedal isn't as firm as it once was (good morning!), the car still slows with a small amount of pressure on the pedal but it's no where near as effective as it used to be. All the pads and dsics are good and the fluid was changed a few months ago. Any suggestions so I can get nice and hard again??!!! Car is 1.8t sport that's just passed 100k

    Air in the system, bleed it wont hurt :D

    that's what i thought but it wasn't long ago that i bled them, gotta be worth a go tho! Out comes the ezibleed again

    There are two bleed nipples on the master cylinder, be sure to bleed them too or you will have this prob all the time :D good luck

    Good thinking! Tried it but still no joy along with bleeding everything else. I wonder if it could be the front discs, the pads are fairly new but the discs aint, they do have a slightly mottled effect rather than being shiny as you'd normally expect.

    Just measured the discs and they are about 22mm thick, anyone know what the min thickness is?

    i have just had mine pressure bled and that has made a better difference than the two independent specialsistthat have had it before

    been doing it with a pressure type system that runs off the spare tyre, it's a bit cheap tbh. Whats the system the garage used?

    Is there much of a lip on the disks? this can push the pads/piston out slightly when driving meaning the next time you press the pedal some of the pedal travel has to close the gap before any real force is applied.

    TBH it shouldnt make a diffrence if you do it yourself or othewise. I too use the spare tyre system lol.

    urm as for thickness I think they should be alot thicker than that, ill look on ELSWIN and let you know

    the lip is a bit bad tbh, the back of the disc is worse. Got a set of delphi discs for £33 today so gonna stick em on tomorrow along with a good 8 hour detail!!!!

    I think pressure bleeding has a higher degree of success in my opinion based on the times ive had them done..... obviously if done correctly by the DIY method your gna see the same results, but the margin for error is much wider

    did that on my mates saab the other day, been stood for 18 months! Out with the grinder and a nice flappy disc!

    thickness of the disc will depend on what discs you have

    288 discs start at 25mm, with a min thickness of 22mm

    cheers for all the input, turns out the discs were well past it! The backs of them were shocking, kinda annoyed with my self for letting them get so bad but hey ho, lesson learned!!
