looking to replace ignition barrel

The ignition barrel on my 1.8T must have been replace in the past, the problem I'm having is the barrel only sometime enables the steering lock which then does not switch on the interior light.

So I was going to buy a new barrel and have that re-tumbled to match the door key, other than the key matching am I missing anything? Is there any recoding required if you change the barrel?

assuming you don't change the key you start it with you will be fine. Other wise you will need to swap the transponder chip from the Ignition key to the door key to allow it to then operate the re tumbled lock and then de activate the immo

I can do the key's, I just wondered if any coding was required if the barrel was changed.
