looking at getting an a6 auto whats the main issues on them?

Hi all

Im looking at getting an a6 auto(leg problems) and was wondering if the a6's upto around 2002 had the hated multitronic gearbox or are they just a normal tiptronic box?Also whats the main things to look out for on the cars?

I think the front wheel drive cars had multitronic. Whilst quattros had tiptronic.

You could choose iirc, but as standard the fwd's were multi and the quattro's tip. There are no quattro's with multi however. If you do choose a multi, make sure it's had the gearbox oil changed every 40k and if you can find one that has been serviced every 12k rather than long life even better. The long life was responsible for premature cam wear esp on the 2.5's.
