I was away from home for about 4 days came back to some Birds **** on my bonnet....about 3 drops I think.....Took it to the hand car wash today and I was shocked of what the birds **** had done to my bonnet after the car wash.

I don't know who to blame !! 1. The bird 2. The people who painted my Front End of my car ...."As I've had an 2010 conversion" :banghead:

I'm soooo pissed off right about now......

When you say 'local hand wash place' do you mean the £5 hand wash places that are about nowadays?

Aww that is totally gutting, matey :(. I know bird poo can be very acidic and can cause etching to paintwork, but unless the bird was pooing straight hydrochloric I think I'd be blaming whoever painted your bonnet. :( x

I still very much doubt its excellent, but then i did detailing a few years ago.

Do they do 2 bucket method? Are seperate mitts used for the top and lower half of the car? Do they use large plush mitts to clean with? Is a plush towel used to dry etc etc

Ring them back and say that you have all records of the work carried out by them and if they do not agree to redo the paintwork you will be looking to take legal action.

They will soon "S**T" (excuse the pun) their pants!

That's a tricky one mate. Legal action ain't really gonna get you anywhere to be honest. I mean you could try small claims court, but you're gonna have to prove that its down to his workmanship etc.
    Its not realistic IMO.

I'd go down there and speak to him face to face. Its easy for them to fob people off on the phone, but when met with an unhappy person it can be a different story.
Even take a few mates with you, leaving them outside but in view. Not to cause trouble, but if he sees you with a few other heads he might look at you lot as a bunch of young guys and think its just not worth the possible hassle if he doesn't put your car right.

And he's not reasonable AT ALL !! .....

They pressure wash first, then use "huge" mitts and a shampoo then pressure wash again and then a water repelant that i dont have because it stops the wipers working properly, then its dried using some sort of towelling then the wheels are spray waxed and wiped. All door shuts are washed and dried as well as the boot shuts and windows cleaned with some spray or other...............for £6 :)
I do all the waxing etc but i always use them first because i dont have pressure wash facilities.

Take a trip to Citizens Advice. Tell them everything and see what they suggest. Hope you didnt mention the bird poo to the garage as they could blame this if they think you have heavy handed washed the car...just a thought. But it looks like they just havnt prep'd properly and baked it. Good luck and hope you get it sorted

See, this is where I just get ignorant with people! It's not (never) the best way to deal with things but sometimes faced with idiots who know no reason I just can't help it.

Has he even said to you to take it to him so he can at least have a look?

If not and he's just straight up unreasonable then as long as he didn't have my address I'd make his life hell.
It wouldn't get my car sorted but it'd make me feel so much better about it.

PS: Do you want us 8P boys to take a detour before or after ADI?? :eyebrows:

This is so ironic, have been discussing running a good professional paintshop today with a good friend who does my paint, the costs they have to pay to insurers etc is unreal, never realised until today, seriously shocked what they pay out, they have to pay commision to insurers ffs, 1 of many shocking truths I learnt today.

Anyway, bottom line, no effing way bird poo will do that, thats **** paint job end of, take back & tell them to resolve, I've had large bird poos on my cars for ages & not even one mark after cleaning.

If you want a reliable paint shop, slightly out of your way, give me a shout, they are very good.

Why not get two or three other paint shops to give you their professional opinion and then confront him with the evidence, suggesting that unless he does it properly you will give it to one of the other guys to fix and sue him in the small claims court for the money involved ?

I'm paranoid about swirlmarks in the paintwork on my cars, especially as I usually have black or dark colours. Won't even let the Audi dealer wash it when it's in (they all think I'm mad), let alone the cowboys in supermarket carparks.

Problem is, small claims court can be a bit of a farce. Even when found in your favour it can be VERY difficult to get any money out of the person you are claiming against.
If you do win but they still refuse to pay out then you have to go through additional processes, which end up costing more money.

So if the person is subborn enough, by the time you've finished you'll have eaten up any money you might get out of them in additional legal fees.

Also, what's the likelihood of finding a few other paint shops that will get involved and provide evidence that the paint job was substandard? Its not very likely, imo.
And what kind of evidence will they give, apart from their opinion??

All this dodgy paintshop has to say is that you, the customer, asked for a quick job to keep the costs down and was warned that it might not last and you accepted the risk. Case closed!

Basically digzz, don't waste your time going through small claims, especially not for a bonnet respray. Try your best to get the guy to put it right by whatever means you see fit.
Or, as others have said, get it done somewhere else and then do whatever makes you feel better with regard to this scallywag.

what ads says bro, i blame it on the paint aswell the bird droppings looks like its etched through poor quality laquer and sat right on the base coat. The moment it was agitated in the wash process the paint came clean away.

The only way you could prove it is with a detailer who would take paint measurements on the panel and maybe prove the lacquer quality was poor and the prep. (Paint depth gauge etc) If the paint readings are poor its likely the bird poo cut straight through the laquer and sat on the base. Proving this to a body shop will still be a problem and at the end of the day ads is right they could say to keep costs down they used lower quality supplies and notified you of this. Unfortunately this is always a problem with labour work its impossible to prove who is at fault and as it is not really a brand, disgracing the company wont really bother them.

Very unlucky this, I'd be straight to the garage giving them some serious ****, as in protest banners, buckets of bird poo etc etc.

This must be one of the few instances where your not actually trying to track down the perpetrator or offered any thoughts of malice against them...why do we just expect birds to poo, I think we should take some time to slate the offending winged rat that did this, total thoughtless b****D!!

I swear I've seen an advert from them on gumtree with their phone number, selling a TV that is priced nice and low which will get them loads of phonecalls asking if its still for sale.

I think they are also selling an iPhone 4 at a really good price too.

And I think they are selling lots of other stuff which will have their phone ringing off the hook all day every day.

I wonder if they are genuine adverts, or maybe it was just a dream I had last night of how to start paying these muppets back???
    I can't remember now.

I feel for you mate, I can imagine it's cost you a fortune to do the facelift.

Probably not what you want to hear, but I would 'cut your losses' and put it down to experience.

    Name and shame? Definately!

Problem is, if you try and take the law into your own hands, you'll end up the bad guy.

I wouldnt bother going back to get the work done as you actually want it done properly. Also, after arguing with them the last thing I'd do is give them your car again. IMO claims court is just not worth the hassel/time you'll invest pursuing it, when you could just pay a couple hundred quid and get it sorted somewhere decent.

Annoying, but for the sake of ease, put it down to experience and move on. Name and shame all over the net though so others can avoid the scum!

They only similar thing I have seen is about 3 yrs ago on my mom's 2003 Clio but the bird **** was on the bonnet for like 2 weeks and it was during one of Melbourne's hottest summers (we are talking 38-42 deg C) and the car is a gold colour, it was my fault cause i removed the bird **** dry and not wet. The thing is that the paint peeled and actually there is still bit of paint in the circle of where the paint was removed (not sure if it makes sense) but what you have in your photos is different, it is more of a chemical reaction between the paint and the acid in the bird poo. That should not happen certainly not this fast. I reckon they used the wrong overcoat/clearcoat or used a really bad quality one. The clear coat is a tough barrier when applied and baked correctly, no way in hell that would happen especially in the pissy north European Summer.

Nothing is really worth the effort. Name and Shame the company on as many forums as friends as you can muster. Damage his business as these places rely ALOT on word of mouth and recommendations. Make up a sign, sit it outside on the street one night pointing to his shop saying "Such and such is a complete cowboy, do not take your car there!"
